dude just go out and walk. But while you are walking use your eye's to pick out the unusual stuff that you would normally not notice. Strike up conversations with strangers. go read to kids. Volunteer . at a library, or a senior center, help the music teacher at the schools if you can play all those instruments. Open your mind as to who you can help and what you can be instead of wallowing in a self constructed mental depression

all the taboo's I have, I did myself.

I really tried to grow dreads, decades ago. They wouldn't take.

I honestly thought about volunteering to help folks but then I was like, "fvck 'em".

I don't smoke weed. I do drink a little beer. honestly tried to kill myself drinking beer before I had surgery. It didn't take.

Someone suggested RC cars and while I'm nowhere near fat enough, I have kind of been looking into them. Gives me a reason to get outside. you walk around a bit and flip the car back onto its wheels. etc.

Swimming is out. too much strain on my back. If you do a search on the way back machine around here, you may find a thread I made after my first surgery , titled, "i forgot how to swim" or something like that.

I have a LOT of free time. I don't work 8 hours a day. Or, it's rare when I do. Today we worked 3.5 hours. so.. that leaves me with a LOT of free time. Like I said, I've been cooking a lot of crazy stuff that I would never have cooked or ate in the past. that takes up some time. but not enough. and since I'm not burning calories riding a bike or skateboarding, I can't eat that much. So, I can't cook that much. etc.

If you like mechanical stuff they are a good hobby. Google around some, you can actually find rc car tracks that have jumps berms etc (most often through enthusiast clubs or hobby shops). I have a cousin who is paraplegic and is into rc cars.

there is an rc track near where I live now. and my boss is into rc cars and has a pump track in his back yard. So i have places to rally 'em around.

I took a welding class years ago. made a lot of metal art. I just recently sold my welding stuff.

I did a lot of bow hunting / shooting in my youth. over it. it is fun stuff though. I'd get into firearms again but... i'd end up dead or in prison. which may happen eventually but for now, I'm trying to not die.

i don't play video games. never have.
Doesnt seem like the worst time to start if youre that desperate.

I know theres a whole stigma surrounding them, especially among “outdoorsy people” but I enjoy the hell out of playing videogames when Im not travelling around the world for work or fun. You cant allways be on a bike/snowboard/surfboard/hiking trail and I find its a good way to aboid my nagging gf too especially since i usually use headphones. :D

Just borrow or buy a used playstation 4 and play a game like “The last of us”. Set the difficulty on easy and just enjoy the story.
Videogames have come a long way since Tetris.

my issue with video games is, I only do one thing at a time. for a long time. I don't want to dedicate myself to them. I can.not go down that road. I have friends that play and have for years. I know how great they are and how far they've come. I just. can't.

I'd end up stoned ( I don't smoke weed) and drunk. calling in 'sick' to work to play video games. I'm enough of a recluse as is.

msn links? no idea what that is.

I've seen everything I need to see that is on Netflix. and Hulu. and Amazon. and . well... i watch a bunch of dumb stuff on youtube.

I've been dealing with this back issue since January. I've had a LOT OF FREE TIME to look at the tv/computer. I didn't work for 2+ months during that time. and books? I have plenty to burn for heat this coming winter. Heating bill should be low. which is good 'cause since I paid for my surgery with cash, i'm damn hell broke.

I have no idea where I am
Well since you have already done everything suggested the only thing left is to find a nice park bench downtown to sit all day and yell at pigeons. Who knows, it might just be the catharsis you need.

Lemme guess, you practically grew up around a pottery wheel?

Start a knife sharpening business?

Walk small dogs at the animal shelter?

Screen print t shirts?

Build potato cannons?

Buy a metal detector and a trowel and start metal detecting everywhere.

Having done something is not equivalent to having excelled at it. Just because you can lay a decent bead does not make you a craftsman welder. Why not pick something that you have already done and really enjoyed and delve even deeper into it?

You keep saying that you've tried it, done it or grown bored with it. That sounds like the frustration talking. Do you also get frustrated with your PT? Did you set challenging but achievable goals? Are you following through with it? Every single time? Not over doing it? 2 months - as you should know - is not a long time post surgery. It take a hell of lot longer than that just for the recovery from the surgery. Then you have to rebuild all the strength you lost.

In fact, there is an idea. Spend your time concentrating on your recovery. Research. It is not humanly possible for you to have covered (as in read, understood and assessed) every topic involved with your back injury and recovery from it. If your back is making you miserable, spend all of your free time and effort fixing it.

Why not take up a second business if you work so little something that could even become something you really like. I know so many people want to be internet starts but there are plenty of things to post about. Then you could learn how to do good video. Like a friend of mine now has a small program where he test whiskey and Gin and they travel to events and distilleries. They have fun and make a little money on it too.
