Yo,

Since a lot of folks on here ride at Galbraith, I figured I'd post this up here. The below message is from Bill Hawk regarding the first of many FR trail days. FYI, this usually entails a ride up the hill in the back of a truck to the work location.

Cheers,
EB

Sunday's Details:
The WMBC FR Trail Crew is kicking off the building season this Sunday, Nov. 9 at 11am.
We'll meet at the upper Lake Padden parking lot across from Galbraith Ln. at 10:45 and roll out at 11. The plan is to complete work on Cheech and Chongs Wild Ride, including some low level bridge work, and to fix the rogue reroutes that were cut a few weeks ago. Bring work gloves, water, a snack, weather appropriate clothing, and your fave tool if you have one.

There's plenty to do and we could definitely use the help. Looking forward to a big turnout.
Cheers,
Hawk

Additionally, here's the schedule for the official Freeride traildays for the winter. Mark 'em on your calendars. There will be lots of unofficial trail days lead by some of the new "trail managers" that will be adopting certain trails, so if you're interested in helping, drop me a PM or check out the Ride Galbraith site and post up over there.

Work Days:

  • Nov 9th Sun
  • Dec 13th Sat
  • Jan 11th Sun
  • Feb 15th Sun
  • Mar 14th Sat
  • Apr 12th Sun
  • May 9th Sat
  • Jun 14th Sun

Trail Plan:

New trails to cut:
  • A trail below The Luge
  • Upper Scorpion
  • Connector to top of Mullet

Maintenance/additions:
  • Finish bridge work at the end of lower CCWR (between structure and high-speed skinny)
  • Add transition to wood jump on Safety Break
  • Drainage on flat parts of Upper Mullet ( a bunch of rock is being delivered)
  • Add features to Mid Mullet
  • Finish Lower Mullet (the new one cut in at the end of last season)
  • All other Freeride trails needing routine maintenance
  • Drainage on Meth Lab
  • Add features where needed

A little stokeage as well. A new jump that was added on Mullet the past couple of weeks. Tranny hasn't been built yet, so it's still flagged off (although some have poached it ;) ), but this section is about to get an entire overhaul......

Hawk shaping and packing it down:

Takeoff. Moved a ton of rock and dirt for this one.

So, about 20 folks came out to give back to the trails yesterday. The best part was the amount of groms that came to help.......stoked! There was a group of 4 or 5 middle-school aged buddies and a group of 4-5 high schoolers as well. Ooh yeah, another guy brought his 8 year old son (Aiden) and they were digging drains and helping buff the trail too! Matt and Hawk had a boatload of tools ready and wood was pre-staged / prepped for some new laddering..

Cheech and Chong's Wild Ride (aka Shawn's trail) got a top to bottom overhaul. Things done.
  • Drainage on all of the big puddles.
  • 4 new berms were added.
  • Recently constructed re-routes were shut off, ferns transplanted, etc. One of the re-routes, however, actually had better flow than the original line, so that was kept (and buffed) while the original line was blocked off. These should help keep the continuity of the trail and less confusion for riders.
  • New ladder put over a nasty wet section at the bottom of CCWR.
  • A small jump near the bottom got additional dirt added to it.
  • New tranny built for a ladder jump on Safety Break.

With a little rain, the new berms should pack in nicely, but the trail's in great shape otherwise. The next FR trailday will be on December 13th and we'll be working on Mullet. To quote Hawk:

"On Mullet, there's definitely a few problem spots that need attention, both on the flat section in the middle of the trail and on the lower section we cut last spring. Mullets, as you know require constant attention and grooming in order to pull them off. This trail is no exception." :rockout:

Cheers,
EB
