Ok, I just bought a used super t. . . well, actually it's an 03 junior t upgraded to the hcsv cartridge in one leg, but we'll pretend it's the real deal, ok? I bought it and it's super plush and feels real nice, but I have never owned a full bath fork before. I feel like I should change the oil, and I would like to know what adjustments I can and should make to get this thing running like a champ. I have an outboard rebound adjuster and what I would assume is a preload adjuster. I dont know what else I can tweak inside. I need to know oil height and viscosity for a nice progressive feel. It feels a little soft right now, so I was thinking about doing 10wt instead of the 7.5 that I presume came with it.

Anyway, I weigh 165 (175 in armor) and I ride mostly trails, although I do enjoy some urban stuff with small drops (nothing more than 5 to flat and some stairgaps). I like going fast when the trail lets me. I am looking to get into more dh stuff during the summer, but definately at a beginner level. Any help from owners would be appreciated.

I am your size and ride the same way. With my old 03 Jr T and my current 04 Super T the key element to optimal performance seems to be oil height. There are varying opinions ......search the forums on this site. I can't give you exact numbers, I just added SMALL amounts of 10wt. oil to the stock 7.5 wt. until I got to the "just right" zone. Don't put too much in or you won't have all your travel avail.
Also, you should probably have your preload cranked down all the way...and a moderate amount of rebound damping.
Your 03 Jr T has that stupid plastic rod damping adjust in the stock leg. The direction to inc or dec damping is OPPOSITE what is listed in the 03 manual.

yeah, i dont really think i'm going to screw with the rebound damping in the stock side because the control is so much better with the external knob. It came set up with little damping but with the other side I can get it down so its real slow

skate to kill. i just tumed my friends junior super t. ok in the side with junior t internals you want to run absolutely no rebound dampining. and 2.5wt oil. you want that side to do absolutely nothing for rebound dampining because it will make your fork feel like a junior t. in the super t side of the fork you want to run 7.5wt. oil (marzocchi knows what they are doing when they put a certian wt. in). you want to run the rebound dampining so you can barely feel the fork slowing down upon rebound then 1 more full turn out (so it gets even faster rebound). the fast rebound speed will prevent your suspension from "packing up" and will keep the front wheel glued to the ground. as for preload, preload is usually used to set the right amount of sag on your fork. most people think preload is to keep it from bottoming, its not. it actually makes your fork meel more linear than progressive if you crank it down. so no preload on your fork. the different wt oils will change how sensitive your fork is. 15wt= not sensitive and your hands will hurt if there are any bumps on your trails. 2.5 wt= too sensitive and dampining will not really even work it will feel like "spring" dampened.

SO:
2.5wt in jr t cartridge
7.5 wt in super t cartridge
no preload on either side
no dampining in jr t side
very little dampining on super t side

the way im telling you to set up you fork will wear the oil in the super t side out often so change it every few months. and ive run a fork like this and it works like a world cup boxxer. dont forget to pack the seals full of judy butter so your fork is sensitive enough to work over tiny pebbles.

hope this helps

ok its sounds like im argueing with myself but, you dont want that cartridge to do anything so the lighter oil in it the better. if you put regular 7.5 wt oil in it then it will still feel like a Jr T.
ok

You actually have a good point, the problem with the Jr. T cartridge is the spiking. The light oil will minimize this problem while still giving the fork the lubrication it needs.....
