Whats the point of swapping out spindles? Unless you have a directional pedal it doesn't do anything. I'd imagine with a bit of red locktite on the pedal threads you would have no loosening issues except maybe when you need to remove pedals. A torch would probably solve that issue though. You could also drill out the spindle a bit from the backside and tap in a hole for an m3 or m4 bolt with the appropriate threading to counteract the pedaling action trying to unscrew the pedals from the cranks. Thread in the bolt and add a little washer wider that the pedal opening in the cranks and the pedal wouldn't be able to unthread.
Most good pedals are side specific.
Your bolt idea would work, but you'd either need two right hand cranks, or you'd have to do a reverse threaded bolt on the other side.

why not just mount your favorite cranks, like saints or whatever, backwards, and then just switch the pedal spindles from left to right. Most pedals can be rebuilt with the axles swapped.

I think the whole LH / RH thread thing is a joke.

There is no problem with threads coming unscrewed. A normal setup has the pedal unscrewing it'self if the bearings freeze up.

This way they stay tight.

Because they will unthread themselves. Pedals are threaded the way they are so they won't unthread themselves under regular conditions.

See my post above in regards to a friend who rebuilt it in reverse, but the wound up just JB welding everything to keep it in place.

Go try it and then try telling us its true.

Yes, because pedals are designed not to come loose under normal conditions. Frozen bearings aren't what is considered "normal conditions", and is just generally a bad idea any to ride with any component in that condition.

There will be two front end sizes offered, with the longer one aimed at riders who are well over 6 foot.

Pricing is yet to be determined and we are aiming for availability in mid to late winter.

We did look into being able to use DH MTB cranks like those offered from Shimano, TruVativ, Race Face, etc. The biggest issue however is that the bike uses a very small chainwheel on the left crank arm, and MTB cranks tend to have a built in spider on the right arm which is made for a much larger chainring, or their spindle size and arm interface do not work well with mounting a small chainwheel. Additionally, it’s all on the wrong side of the bike and if the arms are swapped right to left the pedals WILL fall out, guaranteed. If we could make it work, it would probably be with only one very customized crank. So…

We are likely going to stick with Profile cranks which will come with the frame kit. 165mm arms and a Tree Spline Drive ring will be standard. The spline drive ring removes the need for special left hand drive cranks and opens up more crank length possibilities (Profile only makes LHD cranks in the common BMX sizes 170mm thru 180mm). Profile cranks are really not that heavy with a pair of 165mm arms alone weighing 548.2g. The arms with either a Ti spindle or Profile’s new hollow steel spindle are about 715g which is right in the ballpark of most DH cranks, if not actually lighter.

Any cranks with a 19mm (3/4 inch) spindle will work with the system. This includes the Gusset cranks that were referred to in this thread.

Keep those questions coming.

Thanks,
Terry

Proxy runs at the 'Kill are much appreciated. Thanks Jon.

Dennis, aside from your exploded knee it was good to see you too. Hopefully the trip home wasn't too uncomfortable. Heal up strong.

I know Chris and Terry are diligently working on the Silencer project. I am waiting semi patiently for one. I know once it is done and dialed it will be great.
Some things are worth waiting for and this will be one of those things. Like fine wine or good cigars.

We're really excited about the Silencer and looking forward to getting it through production more than anyone else. Just to let y'all know, we both work full time jobs in addition to Superco to keep this project moving forward. When updates become available, RM will undoubtedly be one of the first forums to know. In the meantime, we appreciate those of you who can be patient and we certainly understand those of you who aren't in a position to wait.

btw for anybody who wants to save weight on the silencer in comparison to the profile cranks...

you can use the gusset pigmy 853 Cranks they work with the profile ti spindle
and the weigh in at 465g per pair
that setup works nice on my superco charger.

and honestly tmx i have huuuge respect for the way you and doc are running this company it may be tedious for us stupid impatient dicks out here but that does not mean we do not appreciate your work, effort and devotion to all this!

i am really looking forward to meeting you again this year and maybe demo the XL silencer :D

cheers

In complete seriousness. I wonder how much $$ it would take to take the one that they have off their hands and be a "test rider". You think if you walked up to either one of them and dropped like $10,000 on the table they would give it to you?

I visit SLC a few times a year and it wouldn't be a problem to stop by and get adjustments/tune-ups, maybe provide a little feedback. ;)

I wonder if they do custom work. I imagine they wouldn't sell the one they have, just because, but $10000 does buy a lot of tubez.

I think I've asked before whether they need anybody to test out their bike, or if I could buy a pre-pro frame....but no dice.
