Swapping uppers on Fox 36

I have a 2010 36 TALAS RC2, and if it's possible, I'd like to swap the uppers to the '11 spec 36 160 version that's lighter and has the Kashima coated stanchions (and swap from straight 1 1/8" to tapered steerer).

Fox says the '11 uppers won't fit on '10 lowers....anybody have any real world experience to confirm or deny that claim? I'm wondering if they just told me "no" so I don't put together a hybrid fork, or if it really won't fit.

It might be true.
I called and talked to Fox today about doing a hybrid Talas 36 using a Kashima chassis and Fit damper with a 2010 Talas system for the 3 travel settings.
The tech said yes I can buy a 2010 Talas and swap it in, then said he'd look it up and said that the thread pitches had changed and were not cross compatible.

If you plan on using your existing internals they apparently will not work.

So, if I understand you correctly, the '10 lowers and '11 uppers are compatible, but the '10 RC2 damper is not compatible with the '11 upper?
