Quantcast

Sweet, sweet riding. And bike sizing questions.

So I went to Trestle Bike Park in Winter Park Colorado on sunday. Rented a Demo 8, and loved it.

Rode a large though, and it soaked up big hits awesome, but small bumps still got right too me, is that because a large would also be set up for a guy who weighs more than me? I'm 135 and 6' probably around 145 with gear and everything. So what size bike would have the right spring rate and such for me. If I buy a DH bike, what sort of spring rate do I need, and what size frame, roughly?

PS. How do I get the image to post?

how old are you? from your weight i'm guessing you have a bit of growing left to do, so i'd probably go large and then buy a vivid air for you shock as it will allow you to dial in the spring rate very easily as you grow heavier.

damper settings also play a HUGE part in that feel you are describing

I'm 15. Yeah I probably won't grow more than an inch or so taller, but I'l definitely be getting heavier. Alright I'll look into that. And for forks, do the Boxxer's use springs, or air, and to adjust it, would I change the spring out?

boxxer RC/TEAM use spring. ranging fom x-soft, to x-firm. WC model uses air.

Alright. What about Fox 40. Any air powered DH-worthy forks out there?

fox 40 is spring.

you can swap in a softer spring. at your weight, you're fine. 145lb geared up will be just fine for stock spring size provided you ride fast enough, or just go down one spring rate.

boxxer WC if you want air.
