Swinger coil 3-way reviews?

The only bike I've seen this shock on is the Iron Horse Freeride expert but I was wondering if anyone with this bike or another with this shock had any opinions on it. It's the lowest end coil shock they make but I've been really impressed with the 4-way and 6-way shocks I've ridden. The only problem I could see would be a weaker, underdamped feel like the fox vanilla R shocks have compared to the larger oil volume RCs. I never use the compression damper but the RCs do feel more controlled to me on longer travel bikes due to the more oil volume/less damper fade situation.

I'm assuming this one is also available aftermarket so if someone is in the know, I'd appreciate your enlightenment.

Thanks

a friend of mine has a 3 way on his sgs expert and loves it. the only prob he has with it is that manitous customer service sucks ass. he blew it out about a month ago and still doesnt have a working shock. :mumble:  :stosh:

but if you have the option stick with the 4-way its a lot better.

............I can't use the 4 way, it's got a reservoir.

Do me a favor? Ask him if he ever felt like it faded on him during long descents. In other words ask him if he ever felt like the rebound damping stopped working or working as well when he rode it for a while. Thanks.

im sure you can chop the reservoir off an RC and reattach it with a hose, its a nice challenge, you know your way around all things mechanical.

Aw come on, I'm not that obnoxious am I?:p

I asked Push Darren about this and he said they had to get caps for the shock body as well as the reservoir caps machined because there wasn't enough material to tap threads of any significant size. So everything that touches the hose on those honda/turner shocks was a custom fabrication. Trust me, I thought about it for quite some time. Take a look at a vanilla RC. There really isn't that much there between the shock body and the reservoir unfortunately.

Maybe I'll get zedro to try it and then I can bitch at him if it doesn't work. :D

i know a guy who has one, and it does feel like a vanilla R

ill say it before brian does get an avalanche

or you can buy the 9.0x2.75 swinger 6 way with remote reservior made for the giant DH, then buy a used 9.5x3.0 swinger 6 way in the classifieds and switch out the ends with the reserviors to get a 9.5x3.0 with a remote reservior, but this will take time and money, just get an avy

its not easy but im pretty certain it can be done, a friend did something pretty similar to a DNM (nobody cared if that one didnt make it through surgery) and it didnt have much material either, ill ask around here and see if somebody has that part and see if i can get it done just for the science of it.

anyway last i looked the oil hole that connects the reservoir was very small, maybe an arrangement with two threads can be useful, one over the other, like a hayes g1 thing. id better just look for that piece.

Man, if you can figure it out, I would be quite grateful. I'm just a little weary about cutting up a brand new shock without having seen it done before. But that's literallly all I want, is a regular old rc with a remote resevoir.

yea it wouldnt be my idea of fun either, applying a hacksaw to a brand new vanilla, but i have a couple of friends who have broken that machined part on their s8`s or similar so im hoping with one of those ill be able to experiment.

I guarantee I'm not the only frustrated turner owner.
