Any recommendations for a syslog application to run on XP?

Seriously... get a little server and run CentOS. Syslogd is a part of the OS.
OK, I understand what you're suggesting. The argument against is that I don't need another machine consuming power and requiring maintenance.

even better: hp's nettop (network on a desktop).
ridiculous logging for all guest os's (all manner of linux, windoze, solaris). plus, just one piece of hw is all you need. there's also gen'l dynamics hap/tve (high availability platform / trusted virtual environment), but it's in its infancy (R1.0.2), and a little buggier.
i like these b/c if your os completely sh|ts the bed, it's virtualized, and therefore recoverable/examinable - above & beyond what a simple vmware platform would give

Kiwi Syslog Daemon seems to look promising.
Syslog is a relatively simple daemon... I'd imagine they're all pretty solid. It's been around forever...
