toying with the idea of getting a dropper post for my trail bike. i see they are available in varying travel lengths, what is the ideal travel length i should be looking for? can you set the drop infinitely inside the travel range? what is the best bang for buck post out there? looking for one with a remote, not a lever.

I have a KS lev and i am really happy with it, i had a dsp bighorn and it was meh

usually you can set it anywhere in its range (at least with those two)

any travel length recommendations? i know it probably varies with frame design but a suggestion would help, all this is new to me

i did most i could, you can always use less (that said 5 inches really doesnt seem like the big amount it was when i got it)

i dont think it makes a huge difference

I went from a 5" post to a 4" post when my hilo started leaking. More travel is better. Measure how much exposed seatpost you have at your ideal pedaling height and check the collar to seat clamp length of the droppers you're looking at.

I've only got enough exposed seatpost on my trail bike to make use of a 5" drop. I have a Thomson and it's awesome.

that Thomson looks super nice. expensive as hell. how are the x fusion hilo's? and the ks i950? seems like you can get a used one for reasonably cheap. and do they sag when you sit on them? or do they stay static?

They only sag when they're broken. Which is often it seems. My hilo sl was good while it worked, which was for about a month.

I have a 6" dropper but still lower the post in the frame another inch for jumps trails and 2" for BMXish dirtjumps. The 6" drop is enough to go from full height to low enough for almost any downhill for my 6'2" body. A shorter rider needs less drop to feel the same difference.
