Where can I rent a decent freeride bike in Amsterdam, Heemestede or Haarlem? I don't want to take my own for fear of it being stolen plus the airline transport costs. All I've seen are the commuter bikes.

Thanks,

Ryan

probably nowhere, i was in amsterdam last summer for a week. i never saw one decent bike. theft is so rampant there that it would be stolen in a second. the $hittier the bike the less likely it'll be stolen. so chances are you won't find one for rent. but you know what, those crappy bikes are sweet, real fast and super stable due to big wheels. everyone else rides them there, when in rome, do as...
plus, holland is so flat, you probably won't find a single hill, althought you might find some sweet urban.

Just got back from there. Saw a really cool Bike shop in Utrecht with tons of trials bikes and all kinds of pimped out seats.

No rentals though, my best friend lives in amsterdamn and he never rides his FS rig because bikes are constantly stolen. You'll see when u get out of the train station in Amst. there is a HUGE parking deck for bikes only.

werd up roswell :thumb: Do you ride Big C / Mansell?

Where do you plan to freeride in Holland? That place is flatter than an 8 year old girl. I was there last month(Holland, not an 8 year old :nope: ) and everyone rides around on POS bikes.
If you're staying at a hotel check and see if they have bikes to borrow. Ours did and the bikes sucked. If you get a chance head down to Valkenswaard(something like that) and check out the BMX tracks(that's right, plural). One of them has berms made of cobblestones. Pretty cool.

Sure Peete, we all know what you were doing in Amsterdamn :nope:

Next time I'm over I'm bringing my bike. My friend found some trails in Belgium and France that he claims are the shizzle.

A country with no mountains
OK, so I'm from Holland.

You can't really freeride here, you will need to go to Belgium or Germany for that.

The only thing you can do is cross country (rigid bike is ok) or street. We don't have large forests, rocks, or mountains, just a root here and there.

Also, because holland is the most f****d up mountainbikeland, there are no real mountainbike rental stores.

I don't think Holland is really bad according bike theft, it's just that, we have a lot of 'em (commuters). Just lock your bike really good in the cities.

In Holland street/urban is almost the only non-XC-type of riding you can do.
Belgium has some DH tracks and a lot of single tracks. No rentals in Belgium as far as I know.
There are a few Bikeparks in Germany that rent freeride/DH bikes, but I think all parks will be closed by the end of september.

Just a suggestion, but I would buy a cheap BMX and ride street and learn some extra skills. A BMX is easy to park and lock INSIDE your room.

I wouldn't worry about theft in Holland. Holland statisticaly has the lowest crime rate anywhere in the world, i travel to and from many cities in the Netherlands for work, so the person talking about crime in Holland is clueless. Some of the commuter parking areas have a honor system. If your bike is nice, lock it from tourist theft, but if its nice you need to lock it anywhere you go. There isn't much freeriding in Holland, but street freeriding is everywhere and awesome, you would need to bring your own bike, La toy - 24 cycles filmed alot in amsterdam.

Talking about clueless, you just won the jackpot :thumb:
EVERY bike in Holland that is not locked will be stolen.
La Toy 24 cycles? Maybee you mean the 24 bicycles crew riding Le Toy frame's?
I know these guys pretty good and the film u mean is probably shot in Rotterdam which is te best city for street riding in Holland... Amsterdam sucks.

I guess you take the clueless and anal jackpot,
so i spelled "le toy wrong", as the bike model with a dash between denoting - 24 cycles as the company name for short or as you corrected 24 bicycles, but your anall spell check corrected that, thanks. Read my thread, i state there is an "HONOUR SYSTEM" in Amsterdam, if you don't lock your bike it will be taken, but they do not consider it stolen. They do the same for the tram, there is an Honour system if you don't want to pay you don't have to. Since there are mainly only 2 models of bikes in Amsterdam the "Gazelle" and the "Sparta" many people don't care about there older bikes and in total there is something like 400,000 + bikes floating around. Actually there are many universities in this country that do the same thing, have old bikes for the students to ride around which knowone owns, they use an Honour System where they understand if its not locked its for sharing, there will be another bike close by not locked ready to take. Go to central station parking lot in amsterdam and you will find many bikes un-locked.
If your bike is locked, anywhere in Holland, then obviously it is not part of the Honour System and there are very few cases of someone jacking your bike by cutting the chain and taking it. Thats why I suggested you must lock your bike if you don't want it taken.
As far as you denoting you personaly know the guys at 24, another anal trait, congradulations did your chest pump up with pride? dork.
If you know how to read dutch, which i do, check out this site www.dirty-pages.be, where they talk about 24 filming in Amsterdam and other areas of the Netherlands, i guess you know them very well hmmm?
If you know how to ride trials or Jibb then you would also know that any city street that does not bust you for riding is awesome to ride in, you just don't have eyes for true street riding. But yes I'll give you props that rotterdam is better for "freeriding" but the thread asks about Amsterdam not Rotterdam genius.

Cant u read emoticons? I really didnt mean to hurt your feelings mr. I was just joking around. Thats what the :thumb: means.
But you had to proove yourself being a tuff guy for some reason didnt you?
Thats ok. Im used to that since I was a active member on dirty pages for quite a while. Signed out though because the little kids over there are just a bunch of posers and noobs. How good is your Dutch? I guess if its any good and if u can click the sig under this post that says v10 mono, you can figure out who's frame this is... http://www.dirty-pages.net/yabbse/index.php?board=17;action=display;threadid=18643
Ive been living in Holland for 25 years. I think I know what is going on here and bikes that are locked are just as easaly stolen as bikes that arent. It doesnt even have to be expensive one, even the old ones get stolen.
And about me knowing the 24 crew.. I really dont have to prove anything to you so Im not gonna tell u stories about the roadtrips I went on this summer with the 24 crew, why I ride a pornking, or the fact that I build most of the 24 bicycles stand on the bikemotion a couple of weeks ago in Utrecht (kind of like the Dutch interbike). Now in stead of that Im gonna let it be because Im tired of fighting with people over the internet, it doesnt make any sence if you think about it does it?. Im not even gonna reply again if u do unless its a friendly one.

Have a good day mr dirty rig.

"Dude's new frame: at last in da house! And he has bribed me so that you cannot be remembered"
And a nice one at that. Although I found the new V10 or "V11" to be kind of scary going through technical rock gardens, very low bottom bracket - slams on the rocks, waiting for the new IronHorse "Sunday" sick bike..
I'm not fighting you, nor am I a tuff guy, I just don't like people putting down Holland, especially if they know not what they are talking about, but you obviously do so I take my hat off to you and apologize.
I was kind of heated because I dislike it when someone throws names around for argument sake, you must admit it gets annoying, especially since I’ve ridden with julien and pat before up in mt. saint anne's and mt. bromont in canada but I don't like throwing names around, great bunch of riders..
Sorry for the misplacement of aggression :mumble:
