Martial arts figure 'Mask' killed in Ferrari crash

Wednesday, March 11, 2009

(03-11) 14:42 PDT Newport Beach, CA (AP) --

A man killed in the high-speed crash of a $300,000 Ferrari in Southern California has been identified as the mixed martial arts industry figure who went by the name "Mask."

The martial arts clothing company TapouT confirmed that co-founder Charles "Mask" Lewis died in the car wreck shortly before 1 a.m. Wednesday in Newport Beach. Police say the Ferrari apparently collided with a Porsche and spun out of control

Lewis was a co-founder of the company and was known for signature facepaint stripes on his face. The firm says in a statement that a memorial is being planned.

A woman who was thrown from the Ferrari has been hospitalized in stable condition. Newport Beach police have not determined whether either vehicle was racing, but have arrested the Porsche driver who allegedly left the scene.

Sucks.

Not to derail but am I the only one who really hates MMA and seeing punks in the bars wearing their TAPOUT crap?
Definitely sucks considering they build their business out of the trunk of their cars.

I agree on the rest... Not an MMA fan. Definitely have to respect the Tapout founders though.

YOu know, I understand tah hate for the clothing line, the hate for the hype of the tactics used for building the company. Hell I even agree about the sellout of the clothing line not meaning anything anymore.....But Dude had a family, and he "was" actually a really cool cat to talk with, and to do business with. Our Wherehouse used to be located right there with Tapout in Grand Terrace, the guys all over there were all really cool, Chuck was a cool guy, his family has suffered a loss. I know/agree about teh douches buying his clothing, but comeone guys, show some sympathy for the guys family. Yes I know he died doing something stupid, and I dont feel bad for him for getting himself killed. It just amazes me how the community of RM can dish out so much hate on someone who did something stupid because he is the co founder of Tapout, when The community or RM was so sympathetic for Sam brown, who was importing drugs illeagally into the country.

Come on guys, he is dead, show some ****ing respect.

I feel for his family, greatly.

But as for respect? As far I know I wrecked his car driving incredibly stupidly and injured someone else and is putting his love ones through hell.

No ****ing respect is deserved. Luckily he only took himself out.

Did his family include the woman in the car?

I remember Sam Brown catching **** too, it's not like everyone here was sympathetic. And he wasn't a douchebag who hung out with douchebags.

Define douchebag... Brownie stole a helicopter, trespassed into the US while carrying 350 lbs of illegal product.

There's nothing there to say that the tapout founder was any less of a genuine person than Sam Brown.
"Genuine" people can be douchebags too.

The local news reports and the cops are all hinting that the ferrari and the porsche were racing. Street racing down Jamboree at any time of the day or night is an incredibly stupid decision. Racing down ANY street is an incredibly stupid decision. This dude is lucky he only killed himself. The Porsche driver was arrested for vehicular manslaughter if that says anything.

"Genuine" or not, this guy (and the porsche driver) made an incredibly stupid, douchebag move.

If you wanna race, take it to the track.

Agreed... I'm not so much defending the tapout guy, as I am not giving Sam a free pass for being a biker and bringing in the loot.
