Hi Techie Folks![Smile :) :)](/images/smilies/xsmile.gif)
First time on this forum, please forgive if I post this in the wrong place.
I have finally found the bike of my 16 yr old dreams (I'll be 54 on Saturday). It is a Crescent Special (ca 1967) in team orange. It is Swedish built with French sized Reynolds 531 tubing and their own lugs. It has French threads (35X1 RH on both sides) in the bottom bracket. Over the years, I've managed to assemble a complete NOS French threaded Campagnolo Nuovo Tipo, Nuovo Record and Super Record mixed guppo to build it up with.(including a French threaded Regina 5sp freewheel, 22.0 Cinelli 1A stem and even the correct Metric sized clamps on the shifters, cable guides and front derailleur.) I know, I know....obsessed much?
Some of the parts came from another Crescent Special frame I had (ca 1972) collected but is too small for me to ride.
My Campy Nuovo record cups (35X1) thread freely into my small frame but do not fit into my new larger frame. The cups that came easily out of the large frame freely thread into the small frame.
Therefore, the thread pitch diameter of the threads in the larger frame is smaller than the thread pitch diameter of the threads in the small size frame.
The BB cups that came out of the large frame are ca 1967 Stronglite for a cottered spindle.
At this point, I should mention that the 1967 frame has a cast BB shell while the 1972 frame is a press formed and welded style.
Back in the day I built hundreds and hundreds of high end road bikes. I seem to remember that Campy BB cups wouldn't fit most frames until you had "rectified the threads" (language from the Campy tool kit manual)
What I suspect I need is to chase these threads out with a French sized Campagnolo tap set.
I have a Campy tool kit with English and Italian but I never have even seen a French sized Campy BB tap set.
My question to this forum is:
Does anyone know of an individual or bike shop, maybe even near me in Vancouver Canada, who have a French sized Campy BB tap set?
Thanks for reading my rather long winded post and thanks for your suggestions.
Pip
