I'll pay more under Obama's plan. My girlfriend will pay much less under Obama's plan. I can afford to pay more. She can't and that cut will produce a measurable difference in her quality of life and her consumer participation. The net for the two of us would be a reduction. I would gladly pay even more than under Obama's plan than that if I knew everyone at my income level or above would have to do the same.

Just out of curiosity, what would the proposed flat tax do? Say, arbitary number of 10% across the board for all income levels?
Don't mean to be nosy about your personal finances, Ohio, just wondering since you have that situation of dual incomes but not really with a disparity between the two.

Well the flat tax is a bit of a farce, since it really is another progressive tax under a different framework. It's like saying instead of charging different amounts for box versus bleachers, we're going to charge the same for both (which is more than the original bleacher prices) except then we'll add a surcharge to the box seats.
If you take it at face value of 24% (the last figure I saw) I would pay much less and she would pay the same. The reality of the flat tax is that I would probably end up paying about the same, and she would pay much more.
I'm not too comfortable sharing exact income, but she's a public school teacher so that gives you ballpark.
I'm not an expert on finances, but how does one cut taxes when we are fighting an expensive war, our infrastructure is falling apart, and our financial markets are bankrupt?

Depends on how much money you make. I'm guessing most of us get a dead one. Poor folks get lucky, maggots make the carcass all squirmy and moist, that's good humping.
