On the flip side the most racist thing I saw was a caricature of Obama, complete with huge ears and lips.

Yes, this was among the sheaf of papers I handed out here in the hangar. Taking a sign downtown with that would probably blow my cover.
Can someone explain "marginal tax rate" to my small, reptilian brain? I can barely fill out my own tax paperwork, and that's without owning any property or having any significant investments beyond a retirement plan and two bank accounts.

It's the highest tax rate you pay on your income. Since everything is staggered, you don't pay that amount on *everything* you earn:

Tax Rate / Married Couples Filing Jointly / Most Single Filers
10% Not over $16,750 Not over $8,375
15% $16,750 – $68,000 $8,375 – $34,000
25% $68,000 – $137,300 $34,000 – $82,400
28% $137,300 – $209,250 $82,400 – $171,850
33% $209,250 – $373,650 $171,850 – $373,650
35% Over $373,650 Over $373,650

So if you're making 100,000 taxable income as a couple, your "marginal tax rate" is 25%. However, you only pay 10% on the first $16,750 of taxable income (after all deductions, credits, etc), 15% on the amount between 16,750 and 68,000, and 25% on the amount between 68,000 and 100,000. If you made $68,001 you'd technically be in the 25% marginal tax rate, even though you'd only pay 25% on that $1 you made over 68,000. Everything else would be taxed at the lower rates.

It's far easier to just talk about marginal tax rates since "actual" tax rates mean doing math (taxes paid divided by gross income).
