After our ride yesterday, I was curious to know how steep Lookout Mountain is and how it and Deer Creek Canyon compare to Old Stage. Turns out, Old Stage is no L'Alpe d'Huez but Deer Creek is. Here are my findings:

Old Stage Hill
- Main Climb from just inside the canyon at the turn to the North up to the top of the first summit is 0.8 miles long and 10%
- Second Climb just past the main climb is 0.5 miles long and 6%

Lookout Mountain (Golden, CO):
- Steepest section (leaving out the top flat stuff past the parking lot) is 4.4 miles long from the stone arch to the top at 8%

Deer Creek Canyon(south foothills)
- From the mouth of the canyon up Deer Creek Canyon Road, then up High Grade Road and then up Pleasant Park Rd to the top is 10 miles long at 9% (not including the section from Wadsworth to the
mouth of the canyon which is a bit of a climb too)
- The steepest part of the 10 miles above is 2 miles long at 13%!!!

So, High Grade Road would be our L'Alpe d'Huez. By the way,
L'Alpe d'Huez may be about 10 miles long just like Deer Creek Canyon,
but it is only 8% and ends at 6070 feet of elevation. High Grade is 9%
and ends at 8469 feet.
