Is there somewhere that I can find more technical info about specific bikes? things like:

spindle length
crank length
front der. size (top or botton pull)
required lenght on fork tube

just the basic mechanical info that you would need for performing upgrades.

If the info isn't in your owners manual or on the manufacturer website, you can try calling them.

Otherwise your best bet is to measure directly off of the bike or old parts, or ask around for other owners of the same frame.

For measuring directly off the bike:
BB shell: simple width from face to face in mm
BB spindle: splined cranks and BBs have made this much easier. Almost all hardtails use a 113mm spindle. FS could be 118mm. So it's best to look at the label on the old BB.
F-der: it says on the old F-der clamp, or you can measure the dia. in inches. If the cable is routed from below it's bottom-pull, from the top tube it's top-pull.
Steerer Tube: Measure from the top of the fork crown to the top of the stem. Don't buy anything less than 1/4" shorter than that measurement, and preferably bigger since you can always cut down.

The other option is to use your LBS, especially when you're uncertain. This is what they're there for and should be what they're best at.

each mfg publishes all that tech info for all thier bikes each year. they tell you everything from geometries to component spec and all the techy stuff for each model. the bad news is it is only sent to their dealers, and even then, they sometimes dont get them. so call your bike's company and ask real nice. heck the worst they could say is NO!
