Why not just have a manual call button? Lot easier to design, more reliable that the angular calculation (which are pointless considering you could do it with a weight sensor much easier)... and you don't have to wait until the pitcher is empty!!!
Yes.. antisocial nerdy Cornell students. They probably sat around with their calculators one night sharing a single light beer between the ten of them and thought that this would be a great way to integrate themselves into regular normal mainstream society..
