Im currently in the process of getting a teeter totter worked out, looking at the pivot point, should I join 2 pices together with a 90 deg. cut on each one, so the pivot rod/pipe only comes in contact at 2 points at a given time, or should I just get a big ol' hole saw and just make it the easy way. im looking to make it rather extreme, maby 5' at pivot with a raised platform leading to it.

Any suggestions/commentary would be great.

thanks.

put a board over a log...
Voila!!! It's like one of those playgound toys you used as a kid.

Maybe youy should go to the playground, and contemplate higher design...

Springs maybe!!!

We used an old saw horse as the base, a 2x10 and a couple of eye bolts and lag bolts.
Find the center/ balancing point of your 2x10 then offset in one direction by about 2in. Pre-drill pilot holes, then screw the lags through the eye bolts into the 2x10 and viola.
You could use the method you mentioned, but screw in some sort of metal strip over the top of the pipe so it won't jump out.

I was just in my garage for about 3 hours making a life size blue print on some extra sheetrock I have layin arround. This monster is going to be 44" tall at the pivot, with a 7" leg span (a-frame) thats 28" wide. Platform is going on a big ol steel rod(which will be 10' long, and 24" wide[kinda wide, I know, but im learning]) Ill post pics when I get it finished, Gimme a week or so, need the funds first. But im stoked about it.

Don't build it where other riders will be afraid of it
or it may get torn-down and ripped to pieces and left to lie on the ground like
the shat of some dead, favorite, dog; breaking your heart every time you go
there: only to leave you contemplating selling all your stuff, and buying a motorcycle...

The design Splat has posted is a great place to start. 16' is the perfect bridge length. I usually build mine 6' off high and that requires a much larger base and a few 8' long 4x4's.

For the bridge I join 2 8' long 2x4's together with 2 4' long 2x4's on each side.

As for the pivot, I bore out 1 3/4" holes in the wood and the hammer in 4 short 6" lengths of 1 1/2" pipe into each point where the 30" long 1" rod will pass through. Grease the pipe well for nice smooth action and to prevent it from freezing. Buy threaded 6" 1 3/4" pipe and 2 end caps. The threading will stick out about 2-3 inchs on each side of the base and you can put the caps on for easy disassembly and repair. You'll find everything you need in th plumbing section of Home Depot. I wish I had a diagram to provide.

Make sure you balance in right so that it returns properly. All you need to do is screw in a few 2x4's on the return side towards the end.

If you really want to get fancy with the return action you can use a rubber band. My buddy Earl recently built a teeter that uses a long rubber band to bring it back, and it works really smooth.

Hope that helps.

Damn, I know what you mean. Have faith my friend, there are solutions in the works. We will have a new spot(s) by the spring.
