Anybody ever do it?
I'm thinking of doing it unsupported - Is there town/hotel friendly route? (like doing moderate mileage, 60ish, and ending in a town each day till the end?)
Bypasses due to no bikey area’s?

In a van.... down by the river
It's definitely doable. Bypasses are all well documented. Towns are decently spaced - sometimes a bit off the trail, but easy to get to. Denver - Bailey is probably around 40 miles.
Bailey - Breck/Frisco would probably be a big on (60-70 miles?)
Breck - Leadville is probably less than 50.
Leadville - Buena Vista is same
Buena Vista - Salida probably same ballpark
Salida - Creede/Lake City is going to probably be a *big* day
Creede - Silverton big due to bypass around Wilderness area
Silverton - Purgatory not too bad
Purg - Durango not bad

I through hiked it back in '95 and have to say it's a great way to waste a summer! Good luck, and check here for the nitty gritty:
