Does any one out there have Tektro Novella brakes? The rear brake is now screaming like a banshee when riding even when the brakes are not being applied, when they are applied they howl so loud it hurts my head...... What needs to be adjusted and how do I do it.. Post a video or pics if you can, I am a visual learner...

Here's one for Avid BB5's. The principles are relevant to your brake setup as well as 99% of all mechanical brake calipers. Most of the principles also translate to hydraulic as well.

Other things to do:

Sand rotors down with 320grit sand paper
Wipe rotors down with alcohol (not vodka, isopropyl)
Remove pads and lightly sand the brake pad

good video.. One problem though,, I am terrified to take my brake apart for fear of screwing it all up and having no brakes at all... Any other suggestions

If you're terrified of messing it up, take it to your local bike shop (LBS) or wherever you bought the bike. Keep in mind that it may cost you some $$.

that's what I was afraid of... I'll let this post linger for a day or two to see if anyone else has suggestions before I do...

The vid and recommendation posted by Mr Jones is as good advice as you are ever going to get.

If you don't dare touch the bike with tools, leave it to the pro's. If you ask, or pay, they may let you stick around to learn.

ok all that worked for me... now how do I make my brakes so when I apply them they stop faster.. Right now I pull the levers darn near to the handle bar and it just starts to stop....Both brakes are like this...
