Man, TO is such an horrible @sshole. I mean, Beating his woman, getting DUIs, and being involved in a conspiracy to commit murder. Suicide is too good for him.

I'll never know what it's like to be a gifted athlete with millions of dollars. But I have a pretty good suspicion it wouldn't be as bad as these pros make it out to be.

I can't exactly disagree with this, but I would think that being a famous athlete, especially one as widely known and despised as TO, would be a living hell. I can only speculate that the hatred from the media and fans worldwide finally caught up with him. Sure, he's filthy rich, but history has shown that money does not equal happiness. As tough as athletes are on the field, they're still human (see Alex Rodriguez). TO has faults, no doubt, but the guy still has feelings. Show some f'n empathy people.

I thought it was interesting to hear Rush addressing this on his show this morning, you could barely understand him... probably the drool from thinking about a fist full of pain-killers. Then I realized I was listening to Rush, punched myself in the face and switched over to Jim Rome.

TO needs help, I think getting out of football would help.

Was there any doubt that all that cockyness was the product of severe self loathing and feelings of worthlessness? Isn't it always? As anyone who has had a significant period of depresssion can tell you, It's bad enough when you think that everyone hates you. For TO though, everyone really does hate him and he has to hear about it on tv every day. Sure he's loud and obnoxious, but as someone else pointed out he really isnt hurting anyone outside of the insignificant world of sports squabbling. The guy has a family and even though I might hate his public image as much as the next guy, I sure hope he gets some help. Maybe after this he can drop the act too.

Watchin' you. Writing it all down.
The reports now say that he has been released from the hospital. That seems strange for someone to be released so quickly after a suicide attempt. I wonder if he has been released to another facility OR if wasn't a suicide attempt.

Of course he did; there's evidence of him alienating teammates throughout his career. There is Jeff Garcia, the Ravens issue, and most of the Eagles organization. It would be lame to forgive or forget that it all happened.

Football aside, a man tried to kill himself (assuming it truly was a suicide attempt). Does any of the above really matter? I'd feel the same if anyone on RM tried to committ suicide, regardless of my personal feelings.

Out of my mind, back in a moment.

Ya gotta ask how much of it he brought upon himself though. I'm not necessarily feeling too bad about it.

I'd feel bad if he got a bunch of bad breaks, but he's been nothing but coddled his entire professional career, and his bad attitude finally caught up with him. Not to mention...if you want to kill yourself, you don't take pills. Too easy to be found before you're done for. If he really wanted to end it, there are a lot faster and easier ways. It was a cry for attnention.

Reflux, T.O. is the ultimate attention whore. You know it just like everyone else. If he died, Id sympathize, but look at the facts. Who is ALL OVER THE NEWS AGAIN? Where does it end?

...and just to take this a little further. IMO, T.O. is a far bigger disgrace to sports than Pete Rose ever was. Rose was made an example of, and kids see what happens when you gamble. You go down. T.O. is CONSISTENTLY REWARDED for being a BAD TEAMMATE and an all around jackass. Kids see that crap and immulate it, and its OBVIOUS in EVERY college came I watch now. I hate it. I know he is not the only one or the first, but he is exhibit A. I wish he'd never play again.

This morning's headline is just about as shocking as hearing "Madonna is now Jewish" or any other of the attention whore headlines out there.

Of course, this will all be denied by T.O. his agent, etc... But he STILL GOT HIS STUPID FACE all over the TV again. I just hate it. Im tired of it. Tired of it.

I don't know how much was brought upon himself. Was he abused as a child? Did daddy not hug him enough? Mommy issues? I don't know, it's none of my business, and I don't care.

You're right, attempted suicides are cries for attention. If this was a publicity stunt (read: he's not depressed, etc), well, fvck him. If he really is depressed and fvcked up, I wish him the best of recovery.

lots of stuff
A few parts to this.

1) I hate seeing TO's face all across the news and ESPN. The media has a mad crush on him, and I wish they'd get over it. This will make it all the much worse, and I'm not looking forward to seeing his mug moreso because of it. Fack.
2) I'd argue that the NBA has had a greater effect on the youth atheletes' me first attitude. The modern game has put greater focus on the abilities of their alpha player, with everyone playing complementary roles. The Heat are a great example of this. Wade is a great player, there's no arguing this. The team was built around him. He carried the team on his back to the championship. Without him, they're the Golden State Warriors. Team play in basketball ended with the Lakers and Celtics in the 80s. Sad day.
3) TO is an isolated case of a poor teammate and great athlete being rewarded. As it has been noted numerous times, TO has not had gun charges, countless arrests, drug charges, domestic abuse charges, etc. TO may be an ass, but relatively speaking, he's a contributing member of society. More prevalent throughout the NFL, are thugs and criminals that get rewarded for their play. Let's name a few...Ray Lewis, Chris Henry, Steve McNair, Jamal Lewis, Ricky Williams, etc. What message is this sending to the youth of America?
4) Pete Rose is an ass, a hard-working athlete, and ruthless competitor. I'd say baseball got it right with its punishment.
