Am I alone in thinking that this may not be that smart?

A system that will warn the public about the threat of a terrorist attack has been announced by the government.
From 1 August, details of current threat levels will be published on the websites of the Home Office and MI5.

The warning system, revealed by Home Secretary John Reid, will form part of the government's counter-terrorist strategy, code-named Contest.

It will also include information on what kind of actions people should take in response to the threat.

The system will show five different threat levels, but they will not be colour-coded as they are in the US - where alerts range from green to red.

It will also simplify the current seven-tier system, which is not published in the public domain.

So, we will be publicly announcing when we think we're not going to be attacked and when we expect to be.

Ah well, so long as any terrorists out there don't try and take advantage I guess we'll be fine...

I think ours is superior. We can say things like, "It's an orange alert day." What are you going to say, "It's a 4 day?" The color coding is where it's at.
Hey at least our bad guys will be confused. You should vary the meaning of the colours to keep the terrorists on their toes.

What? And confuse half the populace more than they (we) already are? You act as if terrorists can read something other than directions on how to blow up bombs.

Only if you're stupid
Oh yeah? Who's stupider, the stupid person who comes up with the terror alert system, or the stupider person who creates another one for his country?

There's an old saying around here, fool me once, shame on you, fool me again...well you can't get fooled again.

Is the only difference that it uses colours instead of colors?

The home secretary revealed that the UK has been on a "severe general" level since August last year, equating to "severe" on the new scale.
sooo... whats the point of having 3 lower levels if we are never going to get to use them? Why not two levels:

1. You and your loved ones are probably gonna die.
2. You and your loved ones are definitely gonna die
