I stopped by the local bikey shop to order a bike for my stepson and lo-and-behold.... there was not one but two Gary Fisher Rigs in the shop. One was sold and the other was available for a test ride.

It was my first time on a 29" bike and it was sweeeeeet! The frame was too small for me since it was a 19" but damn... what a plush ride!

The bike shop owner said that these were the only two available in the US when they ordered them.

He said they were going to get in some geared Gary Fisher 29"ers (the X-Caliber) which will be very reasonably priced at around $1200-$1300.

I am really thinking about getting one.

I rode a Sugar 29'er doing the photo shoot for Fisher's '04 catalog and that thing was sweet! The big wheels made 3.5" travel feel like 5", I was very impressed. I didn't feel a lack of cornering either from the slightly longer WB like some complain of. That SS is very nice looking.

I think mine is leaking air into the negatory chamber... :(
All 3 of mine are still going strong. And I've had a pre-production one since last May or so, going strong with no work done to it...
That Rig would be even tighter with the new Reba WC with the carbon crown, and the 29" specific lowers...
All of my buddies in the midwest swear that the 29" wheels ride awesome. I don't think they'd be as good here in SoCal, too many rocks and sheet...

N8,
Gary Fisher is a liberal hippie from San Francisco.
You buying one of his bikes would be absurdly ironic.

Then again, he sold out to the Man, and now he is all corporate so maybe that bike will fit you like a glove. :)

When the pressure in my pos chamber drops under 100psi, it "automatically" sags, living an itty bitty (2.5 inch) portion of the stanchion exposed (Set at 85mm), and it only gets that much travel. It does this alot, as the 115 PSI I normally run it at is down to about 95 after a week. Is this normal?

Nope, doesn't sound normal. They *may* have had an issue with some forks holding their air, so maybe have your local shop give them a call. Their customer service really is second to none, I'd go as far as to say it's probably the best in the bike industry...
Whatever the issue is, they'll make it right.
I do love my Rebas though, best fork eve. Now I can't wait to get the adaptors from Mavic so I can run their 20mm wheel on my new Pike Air. Wow, light for a 5" travel fork!

Anyone ever try a regular 26" hardtail made for a 100mm fork and just slap on a 29er wheel and fork? Seems like a 29" rear just gives you a long chainstay and stuff.

It might kind of defeat the purpose, unless you were DHing...would it slack out the HT/raise the bottom bracket, making climbing pretty bitchy? Unless of course you have Marzo ECC, which could make it work okay.
