After my last trip, out to Treesaw and Earl's deck party, I decided I needed stronger springs in my truck for hauling people and bikes. Greasey Monkey can talk about all the kidney shots he took from riding in the back seat with no suspension

Anyway I searched around and look at all my options. I decided to try out Timbren hollow rubber springs. They simple replace your bottom out bumpers and are made to work as a load leveler.

Anyway, the truck only sagged about 1/3 to a 1/2 of what it was with people and bikes. Driving with all those rocks in back is another story....................................Holy SH!T it was scary!!!!!!! :nope:

The truck originally is rated at 800 lb. payload and now with the springs it is suppose to be 3000 lbs. I estimated around 1200 or 1300 lbs of rocks(all of it over and behind the axle) and that truck would wonder back and forth going down the highway. I never check the payload capacity of the tires either and they felt like they were ready to role off the rims. third thing is the need for heavy duty shocks, with all that extra spring on the rear axle it was bouncing all over the place.

Right-o, I thought maybe the rocks were rolling around in the back or something.

Be careful with that even though your suspension can carry more now with the helper springs. With all that extra weight in the truck over what it's rated for things have a lot more potential to break.

If you want to haul real loads you need a real truck. I can't tell what you drive from the pic but in addition to the parts you mentioned (tires, shocks) you're probably also overloading the brakes, steering gear, drivetrain and frame, if that things not a unibody.

dan-o, I agree with you on all aspects. The vehical is a 2003 Mitsubishi Montaro sport. My only reason for getting the helper springs was to be able to keep the truck more level when carrying 4 bikes and people on trips. The truck doesn't drive real bad other than the saggy butt. Rocks were just me wanting to put up some sort of border around my flower bed. And they were free from a buddy's house :thumb:

Dude that is a major over load, rocks are very heavy I bet you had more than 1300lbs in there. How is my buddy Dan doing anyway?
Dan and family are doing great. He is on vacation all this week.

I thought about weighing all the rocks, but I might not want to know.

Oh, and T-blazer...........shush up you. If I go and try spending money on a new truck there would be no more buying bikes or parts from you :blah:
