for those whose ears itch to hear palin's completely wrong about the role of veep, i can't help you except to point out matthews is parsing words, for the veep is president of the senate (ex officio) - outranking the president pro tempore. he attempts to diminish the role by (incorrectly) asserting the veep is just a formal or symbolic leader & has "absolutely no authority" in the senate, which as we all know has the rare role of casting a tie-breaking vote. cheney's averaged 1/yr
i know what palin was trying to do: she was trying to make it sound like she would be more than window dressing, which she won't (apart from losing the election in 2 weeks).
for as much as i detest olbermann's rabid special comments, this one is put together rather well:
