Ya, except Palmer is just a douchebag who happens to be good at riding.
It's all well and good to inject a little spice but there's nothing worth identifying with in him.
If drinking's your thing Dirt and Peaty got into all sorts of sauce..
If lude debauchery is your thing Tristan and Julien from 24 were doin that http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qE6dNvZNnUw
Haha memories, i remember when they came around montreal for one year's edition of the porn tour, aside from one of our local heros being taken out by a flat in the midst of a double stairgap, there was also Julien's very Idontgivea**** bike. He had at least three broken spokes he'd been riding with for a while, twisted around to keep them from flapping, and instead of stickers he had cutouts from porn mags taped to his frame, including one of a fat chick fisting herself.

Shaun Palmer trains for snowboard border cross. He's been trying to get on the US Olympic team the last 2 or 3 times. He has said that's one of his life goals, to snowboard in the Olympics.

I guess he just doesn't give a phuck about mountain biking. ;)

Lots of that article reminded me of a pro snowboarder's quote a few years ago "snowboarding was better when skiers hated us".

Skaters don’t give a **** if you want to skate; mountain bikers not only want to introduce everyone to the sport, they’ll loan you their extra bike and spare helmet to make it even easier.
What I want to know is who the hell that chick is hanging out with.

Probably chicks. Or dudes badly in need of touching a chick.

No!!!!

Really!!!?????

The only thing lamer than being a mountain biker is fawning over what you THINK skateboard culture means.

She makes a good point and one I actually agree with like 900% but jeesh......a dude in a speedo and skateboarding references just doesn't do it for me. Wacky and zany attention seeking isn't exactly the same thing.

I'm sorry... is this satire?

I can't work it out. Of course the obvious come back is that you don't give a fvck about any of these comments! Hooray for irony. And satire.

I really hope satire, because otherwise = massive fail.

Stick to Advertorials, BIKE.
It's easier to accept your drivel when I know you're just trying to keep the lights on.

This article is terrible and represents what I hate about "the scene" especially DH. MTB is fantastic because the people share a comradery not present in other "extreme" sports. Somehow we've managed to keep the douchebags out of the sport for a long time.

You have no idea how badly I want to abuse my newly found mod privileges with a word or warning in the thread title, but I suppose BIKE is the forum sponsor.

It's valid to say people should care less what others think and just do their thing.

The problem is that the people she uses as examples very much care what others think.

There is a difference between being your own person and being an outrageous douche just to get a reaction from other people.

I'm sorry, but the thing that attracts me to mountain biking is that it doesn't matter what you do, just go ride your freaking bike. You don't have to like punk rock and wear the right t-shirt to be accepted by your peers. It's ok to like people and be nice to them, and not turn mountain biking into a "scene".

I see the article as in just shut up and ride your bike....not caring how cool your bike, kit, or life is to someone else.

I think i am dumber now for having read that printed diarrhea. But i will say this, any douchebaggery that occurs in "the downhill scene" is pale in comparison to the "punch everyone in the throat" culture of dirt roadies and xc racerbois.
I don't know if you were making a reference or not but,I don't want to punch "everyone" in the throat.

I'm very selective.Just wanna make that clear.

I do like saying "punch you in the throat" though.Makes you sound like you actually put thought into it and you might be slightly insane. Its fun.

Have you ever actually punched anyone in the throat? I haven't but after watching it done really effectively, it's on my bucket list for sure. That shlt was awesome!

Just once when I was a bouncer and the dude had already punched me in the face.It really dosent take a lot of force to get the desired result.its also kinda scary, cuz you can crush a windpipe if you do it too hard. And my boss said not to do it again,so..

That being said....it was kinda awesome

I haven't looked at Bike magazine in quite some time, but I remember them having awesome photography that made me want to shred some deep forests.

The writing, maybe not so much.

I picked up a BIKE Mag at the request of my 7 year old while waiting for the wife to finish up some shopping we stood in the magazine aisle....it's not even worth reading while pooping.
