The 'Best' material for frame construction of a mountain bike.

So basically I'm doing an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) as part of my A-levels and I've decided to do it on material science in the mountain biking industry - I want to be bike engineer when I'm older!

Anyway, I've made a survey to gather some consumer information about people's opinions on different materials used, specifically for frames and would like if some shredders here on BikeMag could complete it

Here's the link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/GS3BQ7T

Alternatively, post your opinion in this thread and feel free to give me any advice on where I should take this thing!

Thanks a lot guys, much appreciated

More info on the EPQ here: http://www.ocr.org.uk/qualifications/projects-extended-project-h856/

Cheers again!

I prefer depleted carbonium or transparent aluminum.

I watched a friend crack a carbon chainstay (Zaskar frame) against a log today.

To the OP, before this one goes any further, let's just say "best" has no meaning without context. What style of bike are you building? What are your goals and needs? Do you need something to cost very little? Is cost no option whatsoever? Does it need to be repairable? Last a long time? Avoid warranty claims? What shapes do you need to make and why?
