for stuff that fit in neither the right/wrong thread. just crazy stuff.

like this:

the parent company of husqvarna has given away 11,000 ebikes to employees because they overproduced and it would be too expensive to continue to keep them in inventory.

How would that be "wrong" tho?

Maybe we need a "what's Right with the motorcycle industry" thread

Looking at this made me think about the Cannondale moto x fiasco. It cost them 80 million dollars to fail at launching a moto company. 80 million

Peloton, the failed online fitness company, was looking to donate 2000 pairs of road shoes at a time(one 40’ IC)to an organization last year and contacted the collegiate conference directors looking to give them to us. When we explained that there aren’t nearly 2000 collegiate cyclists on the continent, they were somehow… surprised?

Next you’re going to tell us there isn’t a charity that brings spin cycle studios to a low income audience. Peloton just can’t catch a break.

Anecdotally, in the Bay Area you can pick up a peloton on FB marketplace for less than $150. Looks like the fitness influencer market is into Pilates now.

A decade ago they were saying that “road bikes are the new golf” when, in reality, Road Biking and Pilates are dang near the exact same thing? I’m like an inch taller after a 4 hour road ride…

I need to work on my bike fit. I always feel shorter after a ride

Yeah. But that inch increase in height is generally taken from your willy.

We don't really feel the cold but lack of genital support and the free swing feature of a properly worn kilt keeps our wee bobbies warm and in a perpetual friendly state.
I thought you'd have known this from your leather "Berghein" skirt... But I guess you also had your thong on that night.

I was talking to Hadley 2 days before Christmas and Suzanne said that one of their goals for 2025 is to have a website!

So, this doesn’t really affect the US market, and really, good riddance. But this is hugely indicative of the state of the industry.

Had a chance to work on a new brompton bike a few months ago. Calling it a POS is such an understatement... No wonder they can't sell that crap any more. That bike was like ~3k usd. I have seen 100$ "bikes" at a local supermarket speced with better quality parts than that.

The main thing I’ve learned in all this is that I’d love a job doing sales forecasts for bike companies. Because apparently seeing a year of sales increases was enough for everyone to just go fucking nuts.

I know some suppliers got brands over a barrel but how did no one expect this to end? Were Brompton expecting everyone who purchased a bike during the pandemic boom to also purchase a second Brompton?

Lmao ..Mike and Susan must have been starting new years early...lol...
Now if Craig decided to go modern with his website I'd definitely start prepping for the end of the world as hells about to freeze over.

my theory on this is:
people during the great ronabola times could not go on a vacation or cruise somewhere, and spent that years budget on a outdoor activity.
Now that things are back to normal for vacation, ETC, the money that would have been spent on bikes is now being spent on vacation again.

Also, hindsight is 20/20 for sure (in this particular situation)

I’m pretty sure your theory is correct. But at my small company level, when faced with having to think about “will current trends continue, or swing back wildly” we opted for the latter. It feels like several companies went all in on “these will go on forever”, which just feels mad.

over ordering/manufacturing was initially fueled because many companies actually ran out of stock. But yeah, twats!

And the people in charge of ordering believe the best place to see a lightening strike is exactly where it’s happened before right?

They still seem quite popular in barcelona and london… and sell for crazy amounts of money. Wonder what the difference in # of bikes sold was. Their 99% drop in profit seems manufactured for a headline and/or investors.

I think you missed my point.
Because of certain BIG companies with MOAR buying power bagging entire components ranges many other companies basically couldn't supply their full range of bikes anymore because of the shortages. This caused much panic ordering in an attempt to avoid this happening again the following year.
So. No. Not really the same as choosing the same lightening strike co ordinate. More like lighting a new fuse.

Bromptons are pretty shit and certainly "seem" massively overpriced . But if you've ever looked closely at alternative folding city commuter bikes (especially after a few years of use) you'll maybe get a better idea as to why they're priced so much higher.

Not sure about that. In Germany, this one is pretty popular and usually cheaper than a Brompton:
They are pretty reliable and even the cheaper options work well. Many years ago, a friend of mine worked for them, so the info about the lack/low number of warranty issues is reliable.

Ah... Yeah. Germany is a special case tho.
They fucking love shit city bikes.
And as brompton are a British brand they will also be an import.

Bromptons are fairly reliable. But TBF WTF wouldn't be doing a couple of half Mile journeys a few times a week from the train station to the office?
Just get a BMX FFS!
