Must be nice, studded tires are illegal here, unless you are from way up north. Though with how the winter temps fluctuate up and down here, they aren't really needed. You'd be driving on pavement half the time.

I think I'll go for the Nokians. The Pirelli winters I had before were pretty good, so it'll be nice to see if there is any difference.

@Toshi what's the wear been like on them? My only hesitation is buying these and then getting a new car. I'll probably have a hard time selling them, as they are "tiny" 195/65r15's :brows:

Maybe I should just forget about a new car and see how long this thing will go for. It's like the energizer bunny..
Lasted 4? seasons of regular ski trips thus far with the minivan. Land Cruiser set is older but it doesn’t get used as regularly.

Need to grab some winter tires for the blue box, as clearly I'm not purchasing a car this winter.

Looks like I can get something like Nokian Nordman 7, GT Radial Icepro 3 and others around the $148 per tire mark.

Or splurge on Nokian Hakkapeliitta R5's, at $183 per tire. There's a $75 rebate available, which when received would bring them down to only a $35 premium (not taking into account that there are probably rebates for the others as well).

Worth it? @Toshi
I know you didn't ask me, but I've got two winters on a set of the Conti Viking Contacts. I got them at Canadian Tire with some sort of promo.

They work well. Quiet, stop well in the wet, compacted snow we often get, and pull me out of pretty much any situation I've gotten myself into. The only time I got stuck was in a parking lot on a slight incline that I backed into. I hadn't noticed it was actually pure ice and couldn't get going again. They're on my front wheel drive manual CX-5. Wear seems decent, I think I'll easily get 4 winters out of them (I drive a little less than 18,000 kms/year fwiw).

There are also some pretty good objective comparos on the internet with winter tires, running them all through the same tests, cornering, braking, etc. There were a bunch up at the top, Blizzak was the king, but not by much any any in that packed seemed to be similar performance. There were a couple low performers to avoid.

There's always one guy that claims to be driving on ice-roads in a rwd challenger with slicks.

funniest thing ever in my 65 beetle being stopped on the outside of a a icy/snowpacked turn on a slight grade and sliding sideways down to the inside about two inches away from the car next to me....

Rear drive ain't bad if the engine is sitting on the axle. One of our racers drives two C8s and says they are pretty decent in the winter. When the engine is opposite the drive wheels on a regular car/unloaded truck, it's bad on ice. I can spin so easy despite being super gentle with the throttle.

On the other hand, it's kind of self-limiting in a good way. With AWD you can easily and quickly out-accelerate your ability to stop or corner. The cars that have a lot harder time just getting going don't get so far into the red so fast.

It’s a very very pretty car, no doubt, but $1.2m and less than 400 bhp? Wild. ICE really is legacy shit now; this EV converted VW bus has 400bhp and cost a fraction of the amount.

Last I heard the normal Singer package like that car has was in the $500-600s, pretty hefty premium to skip the line.

At a certain point money becomes irrelevant, if I ever got to that point I’d probably buy a Singer as a daily driver, even if I did have to buy it for a BaT markup.
That's why I don't get supercars with 500 miles on them. If I can afford to buy it, I'm driving the shit out of it.

I sorta get it with how quickly cars seem to appreciate these days in the short term. It still requires a bit of irrational thought because you being able to double you money in 4-5 years is awesome, but doubling your $1m investment seems like chump change if you have enough money to buy a $1m car, and how much are you really losing if you put 10k miles on it?

For instance Mr Bean's F1, he drove the shit out of that thing, crashed it plenty of times and still got $12m for a car he paid $1m for, there's no world in which that isn't an awesome come-up. Even if the most perfect example went for $20m, he got his $8m worth of fun out of it from the sounds of it.

Not sure what you're trying to say.

But I'll add that I don't think Mustangs are the main problem:

"The report examines key trends affecting this rise in pedestrian deaths, including increased reckless driving behaviors, the need for safer road crossings and efforts to make pedestrians more visible through better lighting and other strategies, and the continued uptick in sales of sport utility vehicles (SUVs), which cause more severe pedestrian impacts in the event of a collision."

I'm going to go out on a limb and assume the Governors Highway Safety Association is not a left-wing tree-hugging bunch...

This was what I tried to explain to my neighbor. I don't know what he paid for his '96 LT4 Corvette, but it had 32k miles on it. I've seen ones with 3k sell for less than $25k.

I paid $14k for my C5 with 72k miles on it. Sold it 8 years later with 203k miles for $7k. I got WAY more than $7k worth of fun out of it.

$2k clutch, 3 sets of tires and less than a grand in misc repairs. It never broke on me the whole time. His car has never had rain touch the paint since new. I told him they are way funner to drive than to polish.
