Thought we had a bad mag today, but probably just a fowled plug that worked clear after a while.

new ignition systems in gas a diesel planes are finally coming around, no mags.

The experimental crowd is full of bad ideas and bad tech. For a lot of them it’s just to work on a project forever, but a lot of the more exotic experimental engines and shit never really work right and are dangerous at the least, contrary to the claims of the crowd. In general, if you want shit that works, you gotta pay for it.

I’m talking about the certificated stuff though, that’s where they finally are making some progress with reliable diesels and new ignition systems. No matter how good of an idea it seems to run a subaru engine in your plane, I don’t recommend it.

I'll give him credit, holmes is a self-made rich guy. His youtube is almost unwatchable because he's so diabolically smart and into the minutia of what he is making.

A buddy of mine is a genuine bush pilot in the Northwest Territories. He spent a summer a few years ago out of Whitehorse (in the Yukon) flying climbers to the Saint Elias Range. He told me that there was more than a few occasions that he pulled the plug on a drop and even some pick ups because flight conditions were too gusty. He's spent more than a few days stranded on a glacier, having to dig out a runway by hand after a big snowfall, so wasn't eager to repeat the experience. Come to think of it, I really have to get out there to visit him...

Anyways, I get that there are adventurers and pioneers, and people have to push the boundaries for there to be progress. But there's also lots of idiots and hubris out there... Didn't watch the full video, so don't know where this fits in...

He currently building a new airplane with 20" of suspension and an engine with about 4 times the amount of original power. He is clearly a brilliant engineer, and probably an excellent pilot, but it would seem he is making something that will allow him to execute bad ideas, which doesn't make the ideas any better.

I see him like a freeclimber, really talented, pushes boundaries and will probably end up as a splatter mark.

watched the crash video... his description made it seem way more dramatic than it was in reality. I’m no pilot, but it sure seems like that plane fairly easily got tossed in those conditions. His specialty is takeoffs and landings. Surely he knows what his minimums are and should have stuck to them. I hope he learns from this mistake. I also wonder why he’s not wearing a helmet. That thing crumpled bad from no more than 10ft in the air.

Saw an Audi RS6 wagon for the first time on the road today. Definitely an eye grabber.

Though I still think the e63 wagon is moarrrr better. Probably more useable interior, too?

Yeah, E63 has significantly more interior volume.

Also after reading the entry rules and omaze terms;
  • In this situation, I'm glad that I am not from Quebec or I'd be barred from entering. Probably to due with the content not being in French or some funky provincial law?
  • Sounds like I'll be up to pay for shipment and taxes, if I win.
  • Can enter 6000 times. So that is 3 free entries, as each free entry gives you 2000 entries (assuming I read it correctly).

I've seen these a lot. I'm still not sure they are on the up and up, but the seem to include money to pay for taxes in the "winnings".

I'm going to cross all my things that mazda releases a wagon version of the 6, which in 2022 is supposed to move toward RWD and I6. That's a lot of boxes checked. Even if not, a sedan with a hitch would suffice.

They put it in a hatchback, the i30N, which is of course not available in the US. That one is a real GTI-killer. They also make a wagon version of the i30, but I don't believe they do that hot tune in the estate.
