I've driven a few different generations. So fun. around 300hp at 3,000lbs. Really a lot of bang for the buck.
It's the convertible top I'm not a fan of. There is a Cayman style hardtop that's $2500 that helps the look a lot. The Boxter just looks funny to me, but I want to drive one before I pass judgement.

I agree that they look funny, but the driving experience is worth it. I have a 2009 Cayman, but the couple of Boxsters that I've driven have also been a blast.

I like the look of the Cayman, but I'm really trying to stay in the $15k range and that just isn't happening. I'm still 2-3 months out, but I am going to start test driving stuff once the knee is better.

With the truck payment of $182 + $600 a month in gas makes for a nice car payment for anything that can manage 25mpg or better. My C5 got 26mpg average and was $325 a month payment. If I can get something for that again, I would like to. I have 2.5 payments left on the truck.

I paid $14k for the Vette, had it 8 years (was paid off in 3) and sold it for $8k. Not a terrible ROI considering I did over 140k miles and had less than $5k in total repairs and maintenance (clutch is $2500, 3 sets of tires @ $475 a set)..

I'm just thinking of the $600/mo on maintenance of an old, cheap Porsche. :D

That's one thing holding me back. I know mostly what I am getting into with a 20 year old Vette with 42k miles on it. The issue is finding one locally. I might have to fly and drive from Florida.

if you're buying $475/set tires for a Vette no wonder you flipped it, eh
That was the other Vette. The Sumitomo tires weren't Pierelli P Zeros, but they were damn good. They don't make that model anymore. The new HTRz5 is $640 a set. Not great in the wet, but the HTRz 2 was "extreme dry conditions"

it must be said that at least I know not to repeat car purchase mistakes twice

There are one a couple purchases I regret. Both were cars for the ex, so there is that. The first was the '95 Suzuki Sidekick. No real issues other than it wasn't comfortable at all, terrible seating. The second was the '00 Chevy Malibu. The Dexcool coolant dissolved the intake gasket leading to coolant mixing with the oil. Both times were covered under the extended warranty, but that car was terrible.

He supercharged it then swapped in an automatic. And that's paint, not a wrap. Epic fail.
When I see what looks like a cool car I approach the owner and say "that looks like a cool car, is it a manual?"

When they say "no, it's automatic" I say, "Oh, nevermind".

I wouldn't be surprised if they were actual Lavallee flames
His look WAY better than these. I would totally rock a "real flame" paint job. The supercharger was done by Lingenfelter and the car only has like 32k miles. But why would you swap a Z06 to an automatic? That is the 2nd Z06 I know of that's been backwards swapped.
