I really like the corolla GR. Anxious about the price, and the dealer markups. I hope that toyota does the stereotypical "I dunno, it's gonna be a limited production...nah just kidding here's year 2" release.

I would think its a capacity issue and that there is a higher markup on the regular cars so if regular joe needs his Corolla that gets first priority.

The bunker at parliament
Average lifespan of cars in the US is 12.1 years. Average annual emissions of a passenger vehicle is 4.6 metric tons of CO2. So, 55.66 metric tons of CO2 emitted over it's lifespan.

Average annual per person CO2 emission in the US is 16 metric tons. By that math, one car lifetime = 3.5 people years. So one 3.5 year old, or 3 one year olds. Or 12 cars smushing one 42 year old.

That's a morbid exercise.
You neglected to factor in socio economic status.
Poor people create far less CO2 emissions than rich people.
So clearly if it's rich kids you need to run over more of them.... A lot more.
You
Need
To run
Over
MORE
Rich
Kids.

One of my customers has a VW tin bus thing with a Subaru engine, I hate VWs but I'd drive that because they annoy people.
My dad's round window Beetle caught fire when he had two people in the back seat, there was no battery cover and the seat springs shorted on the battery.
I thought this only happened with the ealier ones-

Ohhh I enjoy it, people with no mechanical knowledge drop 20k on a bucket of shit and stuff like this happens.

I'm not sure why I ended up hating VWs, the first car I can remember was our ~34hp Rabbit, that probably had something to do with it.

I dig the decals but to not align them with the horizontal line below is a crime
Decal alignment on complex surfaces is pretty hard. Probably started at the top and only discovered the alignment issues when it was too late.

Whenever I need to do even the simplest things in my wife's new beetle like removing the battery, I am reminded that it is my last VW, ever.
My 2018 Golf is super easy to work on for your basic stuff. Battery is easily accessed as is the oil/air filters. Timing chain also looks to be easy to get to.

The beetle is the ultimate win of form over function. All mechanics hate working on it as the engine bay is super cramped.

I guess at least they are consistent, even the new EV van is included in models that may catch fire, hahaha!

EDIT, My first car was a Mini that was restored/modified by an Alfa enthusiast, he told me that a Weber carb is great because they never wear out. Turned out the float level was set too high and the butterfly shaft was worn which allowed gas to leak out the car straight on to the exhaust.
On my next one the owner had fit an electric fuel pump that had a return, they plumbed the return back in to the inlet side then mounted the pump near the exhaust, poor thing sounded like a drowning turkey as it leaned out on long hills.
Oh and my old man had an 850 Mini that he rolled after getting airborne because his missed a recall which allowed the damper shaft to drop out of the body at full extension then do bad things.

I still think there really should be some sort of course people have to do before undertaking work on their own vehicles.

had the guy simply lifted the deck lid and sprayed the engine bay that fat chick would probably still be on the road...

Pretty sure this is more in the "just doesn't care camp". Miatas ability to just sail through courses and looking so damn slow while making so much time on the turns is pretty amazing. Also amazing is that I beat that GT3. The Caymans on the other hand are absolute autoX weapons.

Some of the Audis/VWs are particularly bad, the main reason is the engine in front of the axle and reversed engine layout with shit like timing belts in the back, rather than the front. There's also the Q3 which is basically the same as the Q5, except just everything is smaller, so it's more of a bitch to work on. Most new cars these days aren't super easy though because of how cramped they are. Turbo, AWD, OHV, the more stuff you add, the more cramped it gets in there and the harder it is to do anything. It can still be done, but it requires taking off half the car with a lift.

it is safe to say my cut off year for wanting a audi is around 98-2002 or 04....

1) You're thinking of the B5/B6 S4 4.2 timing chain, I'm guessing.

Yeah, that requires an engine pull for service.

2) Also note that the Q5/A5/S5 is a longitudinal platform with "traditional" Quattro. The Q3/A3/S3 is a transverse platform with Haldex, not just shrunk.

There is no way it’s as bad as the Buick Encore I’m renting right now. There should not have been an encore. They should have quit.

I had a Chevy Trax last week as a rental which I think is the same platform. What an incredible POS.

To be specific, this has Chevy tech and furnishings from generations ago. I can tell by the parts, they match some of the stuff in my 2010 camaro. I thought Buick was supposed to be a little upscale, but this is downright laughable in that vein. At least lower it back down so it’s not all tipsy and leaning all over the place. The rear emblem is missing and that’s a nice touch.

I see your missing emblem and raise you this front license plate attachment (granted, this quality install was likely done by Enterprise). Drivetrain felt like something from the late 90s. Massage chair levels of vibration at idle and any kind of acceleration had to be planned minutes in advance.

I have to admit I was very happy with a Buick Enclave that we rented for our trip in UT, WY and ID a few years back.
Much better than most other cars / SUVs we rented in the past couple of years, including a 4Runner or a Cherokee.
