It depends sometimes i have to much energy and i just have toi ride and i'll go to like 30km or 20miles and sometimes i'll be lasy and not bike at all so i get totally rested. I don't think it maters as long as you're full of energy and feel good and the starting line.
you should really base it on time. like for me i actually do intervals the day before an event just to open my legs up. what i really like to try and do is find a road crit the day before a race, do the crit and then go to the xc race the next day....just how my body is though
