I'm not gonna be watching this forum for the next few days so I thought it was a good time to post something controversial. So here I will play devil's advocate:

Saddam Hussein is/was an evil bastard there is no question, but how does he compare?

He lived in opulence whilst his people starved?

So does Putin, in fact the distrinution of wealth in the US may not be that dissimilar to Iraq, Bush has billions and there are trailer parks which are pretty scummy.

He used weapons of mass destruction on his own people?

Actually does it really matter if you kill people with bombs or chemicals, they're just as dead either way and it was effectively a civil war situation. We're killing plenty of Iraqi's we don't like now, why is it OK for us but not for him?

Mass graves?

Apparently created mainly due to the above mentioned civil war. Anybody remember the road to Basra?

Torture?

As the West is now saying that evidence gained in another country via torture is admissible in our courts do we have any moral high ground left?

So, all in all he was an evil bastard but it appears he was not that much worse than Bush and Blair, he just had a crap PR department.

Time will only tell, but it may be that an evil heavy handed SOB could be the only way to keep that country peaceful, at least when it comes to internal politics. The Brits really screwed the pooch when they drew up those borders.

And an interesting note: The Brits were the first to test the idea of carpet bombing civilian areas in Iraq, as they were trying to quell tribal fighting.

Could be the case, as with Cheng Kai Shek in China during WW2...but why can American's and Brits get along without this type of thing?

Seriously! It's all part of my mellowing out as I get older - I bought a Volvo yesterday.

She does ride, but not gnarly stuff, which is cool by me, after all I need somethings that are just for me..;)

Gonna have a baby soon too.

Yup, the Brits used to be really good at fvcking people over. Luckily we don't get so much opportunity anymore, but it appears we still take it where we can.
