The difference?

Anyone know the difference between the '04 Demo 9 frame and the new '05 Demo 9 frame?

Also, does anyone know the weight of the new '05 Shiver and Monster T?

I tried looking for this info on their sites but they don't say....either of them?

I just got an email saying that cost on these bikes is $4000 no tax and that anything less is a scam. THis guy that I'm ordering the bike from seems legit and he's verified by paypal. Whatcha all think, I'm getting it for $3k, brand new.
Your talking complete 04 model right? Know for sure what one? D9 had 3 choices. 1 frame and 2 completes. I dont know the specifics, but if you look up the specialized website they have all the 04 info still there. The main diff i can recal between the 04's and 05's is the lack of the 6way shock, but some people think thats fine. I have no real experience with them so i cant say. Your probably dealing with a shop that got stuck with a bike and is selling it online....

Well components are components, they IMO should be rated seperately! My main question is why is Specialized hiking the frame cost up another $600 for an '05? Did they make significant improvements or just slight weight and color changes? Geometry specs?

he's trying to buy it from a monkey that has it posted for 3 k in the for sale section. It's the lower end model, but looks like a pretty good price. I would go for it if I didnt love my Fly so much.

only $500, but hey whats another half a grand when you get all that Taiwainese quality in one frame
Yeah. Hey, you could spend even more and get a European made frame with all kinds of design and/or manufacturing problems! It might even take several months past the several month wait to get!

So they throw in 150 bucks worth of parts (OEM prices mind you), and charge another 600 more than last year? and you now get a crappy specialized hub? Ti spring is the only real upgrade i can see.

TW bikes are not the issue. Its a 3300 TW bike that for no real reason went UP in price.

1. Unfortunately, raw material prices went up by a substantial amount... some of you may noticed it in some cycling sites in early spring.

2. You can get a lot of badly made US boutique frames for a high price.

3. The demos are actually cheaper this year in Europe... 2300$ for Demo8.

4. Generally speaking , yes these are still HIGH prices.

If you boneheads would stop paying for overpriced frames then prices would come down. It seemed like IronHorse's marketing strategy for '03-'04 was to sell a complete bike at the cost of most frame only kits with the goal of selling enough volume to accomodate for the reduced profit margin (100x$1=$100 or 1x$100=$100.) I wish more of the big name companies would expand the market by making high end bikes more affordable as well. Specialized does have nice bikes but at this point they aren't helping the sport like they have in the past, the big hit line was prety reasonable a year ago but it's pretty much tanked where price is concerned.

I've had an Iron horse, wasn't impressed! I liked the idea too and I think it's great for people who have limited funds for a bike but I didn't like the way mine rode, but then again it was an '03 so things might of changed for them this past year. I never thought I'd spend $3k on a DH bike as for another $1k I could have a new Kawi 250 but I scored on this bike considering it's brand new and the frames alone next year are quoting $3300!!!??? That means all the extra stuff I get with the complete bike is butter  well not really but you see where I"m going with this. It comes well spec'd for the most part, not even worth upgrading much if anything at all. With all the buying and selling of bikes that I did this year I pretty much paid for this bike anyhow so I'm stoked that I will have one of the best frames around, that is without dropping mega cash down on those smaller yet more expensive companies.

Look for a left over 04 demo 9 or on ebay for them, I have seen them for $1500 for a frame to $2500 complete (pro). With the money you save you can buy a Ti spring. the 05' from what I have seen is a whole 1/2 a pound lighter. that to me does not justify the extra $$$. They shaved off 30grams in the linkage and the rest on the Ti spring. rumor has it they went with the manitou 4way because of reliability issues. Too many of the 6 ways were failing, rumor also has it the 6 way might get dropped completely, but that is just rumors for now.

Thanks for the advice!

I just bought it though, I think I got a good deal, being it's brand new and all. Now I get to sell the parts and keep the frame as I already like my parts on my current ride.

What do you all think about running an '05 shiver on this bike? I'd like to run a Monster T but not the weight, unless the '05's are lighter...?

Ok you guys seem to be missing the one thing that has driven prices up all over in the bike world. The U.S. dollar is not worth what it used to be. So it is now costing more money for Specialized and other manufactors to make the exact same parts outside of the U.S. I know Campy road components have gone up around 40% this year due to this.
