I feel like it's way past time that we had one of these threads. It is actively happening here in the US. Both Trump and Elon are users, and beneficiaries of. :tinfoil: ?

I have no idea where I am
@Pesqueeb I’ll read those links when I have a little more time. However my concern is that a large segment of the population is not only gullible but wants to believe in conspiracy theories, the more outlandish the better. Like feeding corn syrup to the morbidly obese.

That's kind of my point, I guess. I've been looking for a very specific article I read during the run up to Trumps first election but can't seem to find it. The gist was that there was a disturbing amount of overlap/similarity to the information war that was going on here at the time, when compared to what happened in the former USSR when it collapsed. The oligarchs took over, and that sowing mistrust in basically everything, but especially institutions and what constitutes even basic facts, were a key facet in cowing the populace. If we're too busy arguing with each other over race/immigrants/inflation/whatever, then we're too busy to do anything about democracy being stolen in broad daylight, and even if we're not, who are you going to trust to do anything about it?

Edit: maybe I've got my timeline wrong, because I'm now 99% certain that the story I read was about this book, which wasn't published until 2020, but was ABOUT the 2016 election.

Double edit: moving this book to the top of my list.

Facts dont matter anymore. We are in a trans-factual society now.
There has been books and formal psychologic papers on this over the last 50 years. Robert Cialdini is a well known writer on the matters of psych influence and how people perceive facts.

Starting about 10-15ish ago, it got weaponized by Trump and pushed into the spotlight.
The last election results, covid and ig/fb/tiktok have proven the effectiveness on this psych techniques. There is no coming back.

I have no idea whats next. According to Cialdini, only a "stronger" Trump (as in louder, more obnoxius and more aspirational) could beat the current status quo.

Drumpf has already ramped up the hollow-rhetoric; NYT has a subscription-only article about some jacked up comments made toward present LA Wildfire management. Not having developed any sense of empathy ever, aside from being forced to learn Mandarin by his Father in order to receive any kind of family inheritance, there's no read on this looming, upcoming hellride. We as Americans are now going to be forced to observe just how thick this dolt's skin has become - as opposed to before hearing of his being someone possessing thick skin.

The Lost City of Trump

I had posted this article here once before; this is a very strong centering point regarding exactly the 'resurrected' potential of this self-radicalized personality, and bear in mind there will likely be continued shutting out of Daily Intel Briefing (PDB) if not a complete boycott of normal government cooperation. This article is an incredible, permanent, point of reference.
