Basically... Our formal position is that the other foot hasn't dropped yet. This has been a spectacular dead cat bounce.
My twice-yearly bonus got cut (understandably) but given similar thoughts on my end I'm going to put the majority of this month's excess into a low stock % sub-account.

The high stock % portion will ride it out.

I'm assuming our bonuses will be toast. I've been pulled back into the call center (same job as before) for 25% of my time, because they are getting crushed with people concerned. The group pulled in are top performers because we have the "ability" to handle the impact with our annual goals... And our firm is the only firm that grew in our market sector last year.

Mine didn’t get axed, just cut down. Volumes are coming back up, though—people can’t defer needed medical imaging indefinitely. We are returning to full staffing the week after the upcoming one.

You haven't bought a car in at least 8 months. What you waiting for? Trickle that shit down to a lobby rep at your local tesla dealer!
8 months?! It’s been 13 months by my count.

Well overdue.

I bet that thing barely smells like progress anymore.
The last one bought was buying back my original Land Cruiser from my former neighbor. So it hasn’t smelled new in a really long time.

Tesla is 3 days shy of 16 months old.

If you still think billionaires deserve to be THAT rich, take a look at this.

Absolutely disgusting how rich some people are while millions are living in poverty.

Called “Operation Warp Speed,” the program will pull together private pharmaceutical companies, government agencies and the military to try to cut the development time for a vaccine by as much as eight months, according to two people familiar with the matter.

As part of the arrangement, taxpayers will shoulder much of the financial risk that vaccine candidates may fail, instead of drug companies.
so we get the risk. Who gets the profits?! I think I already know.

Have you looked recently?

The market is acting like an imbecile.

I mean... I've heard of investors acting irrationally, but this is fucking ridiculous. :disgust:

Oh, wait. https://brrr.money/
Apparently the Fed has admitted to buying stock. So... Yeah.

I introduced my Dad to a wonderful phrase a few weeks back and I think I broke him. He hasn't wanted to talk to me since then.
We were talking about all the companies taking money from the government instead of being allowed to just fail. Especially after they have spent the last few years buying back stock, spending their cash. When I told him there was a name for that, he said he hadn't heard of it before - Corporate Socialism: privatize the profits, publicize the losses. You could hear the glitch because there is no social benefit to that; it's straight profiteering and the govt picking winners and losers. I doubt it's changed his being a Trumper, but hopefully it opened a crack a bit more.

El sourco por favor
I'll see if I can find it again. Iirc, it was phrased as "buying positions to stabilize the markets".

The bond market is stable. The fx market is stable. Oil's a shit show, but commodities are generally stable. So you know what's not stable? Stock. How do you stabilize a volatile market? Buy broad positions (index funds) to stop down swings.

We are one of the largest holders of retirement plans in the country, and most retail wealth in the US is in retirement plans. On a total level, changes in investments make up less than 3% of total assets and of those changes, most were moving TO short-term bond and cash-equivalent investments. If you extrapolate that nationally, it's not enough money to make moves like we're seeing - there needs to be far more money driving into the broad market indexes to move the way it has.

I don’t think the Fed is buying equities. Yet. Bonds, definitely.

Their support for the MBS market is why I can get a low rate.

New rule.

Every freedom lover who dies on or around June 5 has not died of covid.

Here we go! Even their own numbers indicate that they know what they're doing (plus the whole FEMA body bag and refrigerator truck orders)

Watch what happens with a cominininy of people watching someone they actually know in life get sick. Rideit and Brian will still be on about their gambling investments I'm sure but like squeeb keeps saying, none of that is going to be relevant in a world scared to move around and function.

Oh don’t over analyze, I am not a market timer. I just took a bunch of cash that wasn’t doing shit when the Dow was down, and got lucky. I’m out now, with no interest in continuing that game, it’s scary.
