you will note that that was when Full Trucker called me out for ragging on stoney too much. and since then I have been all the way off his back.

:)
So once someone calls us out for giving you too much shit, we too shall stop. And the cycle of life shall continue.

Until then, fuck your ebike, pansy.

:p

Stoney gets no shit for carts, because the little stoner loves it, and she rules.
What he can get shit about is not riding, and very questionable riding choices when he does.

I must have missed something but you were giving stoney shit for his kids racing karts?

.....but those are cool

It's not like he bought a house he doesn't live in or something.

It's not so much the karts but rather that coincident/related to that he dropped everything else. But I will not digress further as I'm officially off his back.

And consider this my request to stop, Crabjoe. It's not funny at this point.

I reserve the right to make homoerotic volley ball references, at least reference @MikeD making homoerotic volleyball references. Just incase it gets lost in the archives.

Is there such a thing as a heteronormative volleyball reference, tho?
not after Top Gun.

Now all volleyball is......that.

Even womens beach volleyball is ruined.

THANKS TOM! AND FUCK YOU VAL!

Isn't "drifting the Forester" a coded reference to a specific lesbian sex act?
God I hope so....

Would do wonders for my search term technique.

are we talking ridemonkey or pornhub searches

actually i do not want to know :D

anyway, I think most of the juicy old-stoney content was under The Jester or TheJester or something like that. and that appears to have been scrubbed.

and for those who are feeling bad for stoney, let this be a reminder that he has dished out the shit just fine on his own over the years:

30’ easy, 45’ at 170W. 1.3 mmol/l at end. Kids watching Jurassic Park.

First time I've ever done an actual power test and it came out to what I thought my numbers would be.

Ramp test leading to best 1 min power = 310W
310x0.75=~233W FTP
11% extra for altitude adjustment=~258W

peloton makes a erg.....did not know...
No erg mode unfortunately. If I maintain “170W” it’s by watching the screen and keeping to the cadence that produces that at the current resistance.

The Bike+ that I have in Denver can auto adjust resistance in recorded rides but I don’t do that since I usually want just 20 or 30’ warmup then a block of 20/30/45 whatever minutes at a certain power. Boring.

new FTP test, up to 236, I set my goal of 250w during the test and managed to hold it. I need to try that again with a 255w, but I'm satisfied gaining over my last ramp test.

Garmin's new Power Guide seems to throw some good anomalies if there's a glitch in the mapping elevation of a course. It's supposed to give you a rough guide that your Garmin head unit will then tell you how hard to be riding to finish within the configured time. Fairly sure I can't do 55440W.

Normalized power for last nights TT was 237w or right at my ftp. Was hoping to hit closer to my 20m power which was 255w to get that ftp. I guess this is down to day of fitness and the actual road? Or maybe I just suck.

If you could hold 55kW all the way up that climb you could gap the whole descent. That uphill landing would be brutal though.

So I got one...what do I do with the damn thing anyway?
If you really want to nerd out then you do a ramp test with 4+ minute intervals and check a lactate level after each, and then try to confine most of your hours to the power level that corresponds to << 2 mmol/l lactate.

The method is to get your FTP through one of the various testing protocols. Everybody hates every protocol so just pick one and go with it. The ramp test favors strength, the 20m test is not good enough, the Kolie test is like 7 hours long. I prefer the 20m test because it's mental and physical.

then you create a training plan around the power you can put out. By training in the right power zone, you can increase yer gainz more better. Or, when racing, you can get a feel for where you should be and are capable of sustaining (ie not blowing up).

Or take a FTP test then wag your dick on the internet and never think about it again.

There's more to it than FTP, though. The fewer hours one has put in at << FTP levels then the lower LT1 will lie (as a % of LT2, FTP, max heart rate: take your pick).

My goals these days are completely independent of FTP. I want to push LT1 as high as possible, with low volume VO2max-ish sessions now and then to keep the top end alive.

Relevant: the difference between having a good VO2max and healthy mitochondria. One does not necessarily follow the other.

I mean, if you're after healthy mitochondria, you should minimally do time control fasting: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5942780/ and better caloric restriction: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3544078/ https://www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pnas.0510452103 but I feel like most of us bike nerds are after better cycling performance.

I haven't figured out how to combine TCF with cycling training without feeling like I was just holding on and not gaining (though my waistline shrank) so I'm back to eating regular and training as much as I can. That's slipped post-COVID so I have a suspicion I'll be back on TCF by the end of the summer.

those are all in rats and mice. generalizing from those time periods of fasting to things we might see as humans is very iffy.

anyway, by healthy mitochondria I mean those capable of oxidizing fat and glucose readily depending on the ATP demand, and the low and slow method works:

trying Strava paid for the month on their free trial that always pops up

they have a power curve feature. i haven't done much high RPE short interval efforts this year so i fixed that this morning so as to get this year's curve more current.

1s power about 1200W, 10s around 1000W, 30s (seated) around 650W as I stand today.

Stats from last nights race. Gravel race...I ride my fatbike because I'm an a-hole, but I've been able to push some amazing. We held together (again) in the 2nd peloton the entire race. I thought we were going to lose it about 1/3rd of the way in, one guy in front of us was pushing past 400 watts sustained on a connecting road segment. The 2 people that I've paced with previously said "I can't keep up", this is the first HR spike for sure. We never really dropped off though, I was able to catch up when we hit gravel by cutting in real close on turns and using my superior momentum (heavier wheels) on transitions (it's not free energy though). Somehow we got back in pace. The 2 guys with me were easily carried here, because my fat-bike is like a semi-trailer, but then we were able to work and the next critical section was a short road section where I tend to get dropped. Not this time. After the road segment is where I come into my own, it's baby-head sized gravel with like 5 steep hills that are so loose no gravel bike can make it up...but I can. It stays super bumpy till it lollypops back on a "less" gravel road. There's a final road section before it goes back to some jeep trails and once again I was able to stay on, but holy crap that was hard...definitely the last HR spike and I looked at my watch and we were averaging over 26mph on this segment...and that's just avg. There's no way I'd be able to hang without the 9t...which I tend to knock for anything mtb-related, but it's a giant difference here.

It's a bit different than my mtb race profiles though. I definitely go into Z5 a little more with those and more Z4.
