Seriously anyone saying they're keeping a lid on the project? this is a basic result of physics well understood since early 1900's and IMO no-ones got anything new worth hiding. Hiding means more work needs doing.
What's your point? Of course there's "work needs doing." I never said it was done. If it was done we'd all know, there would be pics etc. Orange did a pretty good job of keeping the lid on that one and then Blamo, finished product ready to rip. Of course people are going to keep their cards close to their chests on new projects. It's not my place to spill the beans.

Much the same situation I was in for the last year or so. Sometimes you just have to keep things to yourself.

from DownHillSchrott in Austria::happydance:

The bike on my website ->
http://www.downhillschrott.com/dhs/bastel/rahmen/martin.jpg was
constructed by me and welded by my brother. Like I wrote, it?s been
ridden since we built it 5 years ago in downhill racing in austria. No
pro racing, just amateur. and I?m very proud that we have much less
defects than with any other bike. :)

Nice greetings,

Georg Svoboda

AND one more awesome US built DH machine he's not allowed to blow the lid on yet. No one has guessed it yet. You'll all freak.
foes? bikeSchrott..
Theres been a few great splitcycles, not on mtbs to my knowledge much more efficient and elegant than hondas one was. They work great at high torque low speed.
Was it Browning that almost took over the world but due to his quirky biopace obsession seemingly shimano buried him with their oval rings.

The specialized e-rumor persists.
...I wouldn't count out Spesh either.

Interesting approach taken by SR-Suntour in making the gearbox casing a stressed member in the frame design of the bike.

Time will tell in this holds up to DH and FR abuse.

Nope, and I'm not answering any more guesses, cause I couldn't say yes if someone guessed correctly.
aww. you're no fun. though at this point i'd be surprised if any of the major players weren't at least contemplating gearbox development in the not too distant future.

That's fairly mind-blowing. Almost Lawwill-esque.
Looks like it's actually not a true G-Boxx, but rather their own in-house solution. In one of the pics you can see the red hubshell buried in there. Inovative, but lots of stress concentration points and I'm sure it's fairly portly too.

That looks like a risse shock on the suntour bike.

I give it 2-3 years for gearboxes to really catch on in the DH world. Someone lit a fire under them this year.
I like that they didn't use their own fork on it.

I agree...give it a couple years and I think they'll become more and more commonplace.

Is GT gonna make a DHi gearbox?

Vboxx is the suntour one, correct?

I have to get on the horn to orange and try and get one out this way before the snow falls. Next spring is too long to wait.
yeah, i am going to the show to talk with them. see if i can reserve
a few for next year.

Suntour you mean? It seems like a great solution, and in a nice small package. Wonder what weight on a 224/vboxx bike will be? Clearly heavier than a regular 224 but they seem to have possibly dropped some frame weight as well so who knows. Intriguing.

RAD. Sharp corners in the CNCed bits are a bit crack inducing looking, otherwise good attempt, the wheel path is still tracking around the centre of the gearbox making it the same wheelpath as a single pivot located in that spot, sorta overkill for a similer pivot location to the other G-Box bikes with low pivots(might be slightly higher),waste of VPP oportunity although it needs no chain tensioner and possibly has no brake induced effects.,looks like it's probably housing a Rohloff.

did you guys see the RB dragster gearbox version?

im liking that one, it says its their own in house solution and that it has one paddle on each side of the bar for up/downshifts

looks like derailleur on a box doesnt it?

the bearing on the seatstay looks so undersized in the middle of all that stuff going on...

looks like they have a two cabled shifter, so it must not be a normal
pull. i like it too. i wish there was a pic of it open.

Can anyone add to this?
Have I missed anything?

At first I didn't realise that was a Nexus hub in there. That makes this bike the first true shaft-drive gearbox bike (with the box in the frame not the wheel). Not quite ready for primetime though.

Hope those uni joints are parallel... otherwise there's gonna be some weird oscillatory motion when you pedal. Shaft drive can go to hell anyway.

...yeah - what Flyin' said.

Unfortuntely shaft-drives on bikes just don't have the same efficiency as a chain.

Sure, BMW uses em' but when you break it down into numbers, a chain is just more efficient.

DW - care to jump in here???
