In a van.... down by the river
As someone who normally eats ~3000 calories a day, I do not appreciate being on a no food diet until after tomorrow morning.
Butt-probe??

Also, work is BS.
Man... you aren't kidding.

tell them to find an age un-restricted car by end of day or they're going to be paying for their airfare home.
I made a reservation thru Hertz instead of Budget and *surprise* - kids had no problem picking up the Hertz rental.

I'll be authoring a strongly-worded letter to Budget because of this shit. For which, I expect, I will get absolutely NO reasonable conclusion.

At our local spot group rides can be anywhere from 2 to 10 people - rarely more than that.

We have “varsity” and “jv” rides. If you want to hammer, join the varsity crew. If you wanna seasion stuff or you’re really slow (or both), join the jv ride. It’s all pretty flexible and depends on how folks are feeling.

Meet at the parking lot for beers and snacks at the end. Never had a group ride with this crew that wasn’t a blast. Sounds like I’m lucky!

Went to look at my new used commuter bike. Bike seems perfect and seller was a cool guy even if he was German but I guess came to my communiste refuge just like @iRider and then he is okay. He works for Pas Normal the fancy Danish road apparel company.

re: groups...i feel lucky. have a pretty solid crew who tends to ride/hang together, loosely 8-10 people, all solid riders of approximately the same ability who have known each other for years. sometimes new peeps drift in and out of the mix...most rides are between 2 and 5 of us. know a bunch of other people locally who i might hook up with randomly here or there. also tend to/am perfectly happy to ride solo a fair amount, as my schedule is random.

the idea of joining up with one of the local bike/trail organization's group rides is unappealing and i rarely do so.

Had the latest Massacre track to a really good point and about ready to mix, but then… I closed the Ableton session and one of the plugins didn’t save the settings because it has a funky nested plugin inside a plugin structure (I’m looking at you, Reaktor). Fuuuuu

I haven't skied once yet this year, despite having purchased a season pass. :(
What days are you off with da new jorb? I'll drive down to Monarch on a weekday if we can make it line up and the snow is good.

I'm off sat-mon. An abundance of bullshit between active teen, new job, and life stuff has just made it super difficult to get out this year.

On the job front, I've been having an abundance of recruiters cold calling me since Christmas, and had two recruiters reach out to me, today. Like, where were you assholes when I was looking for a job? But also, the ones today were Boeing (HELL NO) and the other was Texas (LOL, FUCK NO) so it's probably irrelevant. It's been pretty nice to tell them all I'm satisfactorily employed currently.

ok. I literally do not know my schedule beyond next week because my interim section leader is juggling too many balls (whoops, sorry, sore point :D) and isn't doing the "making the section schedule" part of his job right.

but if I get a free Monday and it has snowed then let's head up and out. hmm would have to figure out DCFC along the way given distance! taking the ID.Buzz (200 kW DCFC vs 150 kW never seen in reality in the Busy Forks) and going through Fountain instead of down 285 would be the call. hmm

ok, I can do this once. on a powder day. :D

That sucks. Here there has always been a group of racers but they are easy to spot and then a group of nice people that has kept up the chill approach.
And then there is CBJ, who looks like one of the chill guys and then rips your legs off on a ride. I stick with my excuse that he was unemployed at the time. :D

same, although my road riding buddy is converting and it's nice to be with somebody who is just looking for another challenge. Another "middle-aged dad". Old riding buddies are committed to the "There's a non-zero chance I may die on this ride, so let's do it" lifestyle.
I am somewhere in the middle. Chill rides on flow trails do not hit the spot for me, but I do not feel the need to try out some builders NWD wet fantasy creation. But some guys here are really committed to the later. Exhibit A: picture of my local riding spot:

The stuff just looks big because of the tiny 26" wheels included for size comparison. ;)

for me part of it is just that i no longer have the patience for the hassle of trying to coordinate with others to ride. and the annoyance of having to stop and wait every 10 minutes. if i'm gonna go out and ride for 2 hours, i wanna be pedaling and moving for 2 hours.
This! In the US I had 2-3 riding buddies that were in the same mindset and at the same pace/fitness. That was bliss, no faffing around, just riding and sessioning. Here I have not found this kind of riders. They are either XC fitness guys that do not let their heartrate drop under 140, or stand around talk about their bikes every 5 minutes.

I went out for a group ride (I've bitched about it on here before) and it was seriously sessioning each drop in a shitty local park for 2 hours with 20ish people. I just want to ride bikes!
Or you are just getting old. ;)
Sessioning can be fun, sadly here people do not do this much. For a while I was riding with a guy that had no desire to improve on the "technical" parts of the trail ("technical" as in "it was not paved", just some tiny roots) and pushed the bike across these parts every.fucking.time. Too much interruption of trail flow. He and I ride alone now again.

I've pretty much stopped riding in groups. I can now only tolerate one riding buddy at a time. And even then, they are usually either not my riding style and/or fitness level. My most recent satisfying rides where with a local buddy. He's rides an ebike and has been riding DH for years. Makes for a proper flogging.
