I'm running mine at 40 psi right now (rated for 40-60 psi I beleive) , the tires are 2.35 wide front and rear, and are DH tires....

Pressure is excellent for street, but feel a tad bit hard for trails and DH, and jumping and such...

Any advice

Feel free to lay down the ground rail when it comes to tire pressure...If there is one

what tires ya runnin man. also are you running dh tubes, and what kind of rims are you on too. but deffinatly need to be running lower than 40 that is way to much for trail and any other application other than street. they put those on there as guidlines not for you to go stricktly by them.

im running 25 psi on my minions f&r with single track rims and dh tubes. so you might be able to go lower depending on tubes and rims.biggins has been known to run 8 psi in his with dh tubes and do stair gaps with his sun modo rims. they havent had to be trued or replaced in like 3 yrs. but try at 25 psi

I run 35 on 2.3s (Motoraptors), and when I get lazy, they leak down into the 20s and don't give me problems. I ride a lot of rocks and roots and weigh 165.

There are so many variables that it's hard to discuss - I have heard that you can run lower pressure in front...

Try dropping the pressure and see what happens.

lol xc riders what did you expect there like modified roadies. lol i just messin man.
i run DH 2.35 Minions on my XC bike, and i run them hard, i don't buy into the belief that running low pressure will make a world of difference in traction, but i know for a fact that low pressure creates more rolling resistance. i go plenty fast downhill, my fat butt needs all the help uphill that i can get, y'know what i mean? ;)
*edit*i should just say that i go from 35 to 45 p.s.i. depending on what i'm riding, but to explain a little bit more, i just pump em up, if they feel right, i'm good, half the time i don't even look at the p.s.i. guage on a floor pump... it's just not THAT important...*edit*

Like others said, depends a lot on the specific tires and conditions. I run 2.1 UST tires for XC, usually about 38 psi but I let them deflate to much lower because I am lazy. Rocks, roots, 180 lb rider. If I were running tubes, I would probably use more like 40-45 psi. If your tires have a dh casing, you can get away with much lower pressure.

I run about 22-30 for dh normally, and almost freakin nothing for races.

I go by this VERY STRICT RULE.

DH BIKE AND DH USES: 20 psi (tubeless) 15 wit tubes
DH bike or Xc bike on pavement or xc bike on trail: 45-50 psi

OBEY THE RULE.

It seems that SoCalsurfer is on the west coast, correct? It all depends on the terrain. You will get different responses from the east coast dudes. We are used to a bit of mud, rocks, roots, and steep trails. The west coast can be a fair bit dryer, allowing you to run more pressure. I run about 25 p.s.i front and rear with 2.5 Maxxis Minions. Depending on the mud, I may drop them down to about 17 p.s.i With DH tubes, of course. :thumb:

When I ran tubes in the XC bike, I'd blast them to 50-55. However, now it's tubeless and I keep it at about 35.

If I'm riding a DH bikey with biggerer tires (2.5~ish) I'm normally down around 25.

Thank's for the replys guys!

Here's what I know abut my rims and tires.

Front rim: Laserdisc DH

Rear rim: Mavc D521 DH

Tires: Kujo DH 2.35. (MC Coil Casing) Pinch flat resistant foam.....

To be quite honest, I don't know if It's tubeless

The terrain out here, is usually dry and rotty, some slick rock and a lot of rocks all over the place

I run 2.3 Conti Verticals on my trail bike. I run them so I can see the sidewall bulging a little but not wrinkling. That's generally between 25 and 30PSI. I'm definitely a believe in lower tire pressure = more traction, but I also think it depends a lot on the tire. It doesn't seem to make as big of a difference with my contis as it did with my old Ritchey Zmaxs or WTBs.

I am unscientific. On about any mtb bike I ride, I start with whatever pressure I am riding, then add/subtract air based on stuff like dinging rims (too soft), washing tires (too hard), or if my tire feels like it is trying to peal off (also too soft). Every riding style/trail/bike is a little different, so I tend to use the "Rated" pressure only as a guide line. Unless I have ridden a course/trail before and know what psi tends to work well on it, I use a guage very little. I have been riding long enough that I see my method as highly educated guessing rather than pure trial and error.
