I still like to point out that unlike the japanese, our governemnt never organized governemnt sponsored, forced prostitution of women from occupied area for the troops. In the most part, We condemn war criminals rather than glorify them
Right, we never enslaved the healthiest and strongest men and women of western Africa. None of those women were ever raped, and if they were I'm sure the government was unaware of it. And we certainly never pay homage to the folks that took part in slavery... Jefferson, who?

I think I threw up a little bit into my mouth when you claimed we don't celebrate those responsible for mass genocide... I wonder what Columbus Day is for? I think it's for not going to work, but there's probably some history behind it or something.

I agree with you, that the Japanese atrocities should not be ignored, but it's ridiculous to claim that we as a nation are so vastly morally superior.

"EVEN allowed" them? How nice of him. It was also really nice how we allowed that lovable Jap to become a congressman. How thoughtful of us.

Are you seriously trying to be an apologist on this?

As Toshi pointed out of course they went off the fight. They feared for the reputations of their entire communities. Of course some of them went into politics. They wanted to ensure that we never repeated such an atrocious act. Are you really going to point to our need for a Japanese-American congressman to prevent concentration camps as a success in American race relations?

THe day the school children in Japan are taught that their forefathers raped, tortured, burned, robbed, massacred their way through Asia to gather much of the capitla that became of what the Japanese economic success story was based on, they would not allow their officials to do things like that.

Until then, I consider the Japanese still unaware of what they need to know...
bwhahahahaha!, i got a question for you.. were you as a US-er taught that in school when you were a kid?
or that only applies to others?? in your self-righteous absolute moral?

Is it just me or did some people's history courses skip WWII? Remember, Japan invades asia, allies with Hitler. Kick China's but. Japan gets but kicked by US. US rebuilds Japan.

Not to mention that Japan executed hundred of US war prisoners in the Pacific and treated thousands to barbaric levels causing thousands of deaths of US and Chinese prisoners in Southern Asia.

EDIT: And Alexis, where did you go to school? You seem to sound pretty haughty yourself.

Mack, you apparently didnt get the memo about the revision that was made to history.

All the Japanese attrocities never happened. Just like the Jewish Holocaust never happened.

Since you must have missed it, here's ohio's post again.

Jeeeeeez..... I am sittin here thinking I was born after this but still closer than most on this board, I have relatives with history on both sides of this who were very much apart of these very things when they happened. Some how I see that most of them have managed to move beyond this with some dignity and respect and the reality that many bad things happened that will never be fixed or made right. Time is funny about history, once it has happened it can never be undone. History lessons hopefully provide wisdom so we don't do or allow horrible things again. Sad thing is when sters get all wound up about these past issues and act like those who have learned the wisdom of the past are uncaring or unpatriotic. It is an absolutly shameful thing that we collectivly continue to lay guilt or blame on anyone because of the actions left in history by others. When peolpe refuse to learn and forgive and instead feed hate like this and it is allowed to grow......well that is where we get our Hitlers and the like from. Can't fix everything..... fix what you can.... learn the lesson..... gain some wisdom..... quit applying blame..... move along...... you have new history to make..... make it right..........

So using 2 nuclear devices on Japan after they had offered to surrender is nothing like that your book?
I'd like to see some historical document that agrees with this statement, otherwise I call B.S.

I don't remember any offer for unconditional surrender tendered by the Japanese prior to those ghastly attacks.

I'm merely concerned with historical accuracy on this point, have fun duking it out guys.

Ummm. Hey anyone remember in school when we were taught about the American fire-bombings of Dresden and Tokyo that burned, killed, maimed and scarred thousands upon thousands of people without respect to their status as combatants? Maybe America didn't rape and directly murder enough Japanese and Germans to qualify as a wrongdoer in any sense, but it certainly killed its fair share by burning them alive. Oh, and please try not to diminish that little event when the US decided to imprison thousands of Japanese for basically no reason. That was a mistake. The government didn't enslave them or use them to staff brothels, but don't act like it was nothing.

He didn't say unconditional, you added that.
