Nah. Slack hardtails feel more at home the steeper it gets. Just smash that front end into shit.
Not sure what steep tracks look like for you, but those that I know in OR and Europe always are rocky and rooty and rear wheel traction is key to keep in control. Unless you are willing to skid the trail to pieces like all the hacks. And that is where rear suspension helps. Further, these kind of trails usually also have drops and such on them, so my knees and ankles appreciate a little help.

I sure did. Impressive riding, but I do not see what you want to prove with this. A really good rider can ride a hardtail faster down a rowdy trail than a newb a FS bike? I am not against hardtails, even of the slack variety. But they are usually used by the dudes riding them as an excuse for not being able to follow. If you ride them because you have fun on them, then great. But I would not consider them "nice for the steep and rowdy" for the general consumer, including me.
Anecdote: when living in OR I knew a guy that rode basically a DJ bike with rear brake only down some really rowdy trails with us. While he was able to ride with the group he was skidding the trail up badly, which was not cool.

All of our surface geology was created by glaciers, so mixed round rocks and large roots from large trees. I assume it is rather similar to the terrain around the Chromag HQ. I had originally planned to pick my bike up in person, build it at a buddies place in Squamish and ride it in it's home environment but the borders closed down a week before it was ready.

Went for a ride along the lake. Beauty weather today.

Is this a good spot for a nap? Can barely see it, but someone had one of those Russian Sherp swamp tank things out on the ice, I wish I could have seen it closer, they are very interesting.

The melt continues! Here is the Thomson stem from my other bike, in all its 3mm glory. Unsure when the Paul will arrive. Tree cutting is occurring. Noticed a bunch of ash and birch. Also spotted a nesting Peregrine falcon... its chirp drew my attention.

First ride on dirt for the season. Trails are drying out but still a little soft in spots. Also, broke a pin on a pedal via pedal strike in a rock garden.

hardtail party today. interesting to actually ride one on the trails. landing jumps felt a little rough. carried noticeably more speed. could really lean it over in corners where the nomad would feel like it would wash out. interesting. shoulders / upper back are a bit sore from different use. beers after, of course!

Took me a while to get used to using my legs to absorb what a rear suspension normally would. Everything felt a lot smoother after that and in addition I started going a lot faster through chunk on the full suspension bike.

Had a pretty great ride at Makara today, had my flow on, until I hit my head on this on Starfish, taking a tight inside line hopping over those roots. Won’t do that again. Was going about 25kph I think, stunned the shit out of me.

Here is the trail;

My best time is about 20 seconds faster than this dude, but 2 mins of sitting in the dirt wondering if I done myself a bad slowed me down a bit. Pity, because I was pretty sure that might have been a PB.

fun lil rip yesterday but it was a bit hot! felt pretty good in general though.

took a glamour shot of le bike at the top of the hill and then tried the new steep pirate line the kids cut. was fun, and rocky at the bottom, and over too fast.

We normally ride here at least twice a year, early and late season. But due to 2020 it's been a while.
