made it out with the boy last night...

He's 13 and didn't break a sweat... he still has lots to learn about technical riding, but the fitness he gets from xc ski training is ridiculous...

You just meander around golf courses and condos.

So I got one last ride in Yellowstone yesterday before it opened to the tourons today.

3 @ 29ish road miles in YNP over the last 2 weeks -- not bad Obama.

While I am digging the new gravel bike I am hoping to hit some proper early season dirt on Tuesday (L&C Caverns)

It was a brisk 35 freedoms, but I kitted up as if I was going cross country skiing, and bust out a pair of neoprene bike shoe covers that I've had for 20ish years unused in my bike larder and was quite comfy.

No Orange dogs (baby bison) but soon...

Decided to ski to the put in today, and scout out a potential first of the season ski to SUP Lazy River Float 2 Drank Minimum on Sunday when it'll be almost 60...

Saw a jumble of bear tracks so I followed it down to the river (where they originated, not where they were headed SMRT!) to see what was going down.

And it was a rather large cow with two yearling cubs in tow -- so I NOPED the fuck out of dodge.

Ride in Flagstaff. Some new trails. Some old. Burn damage from a few years ago is over most of the area.

First proper / localish dirt of the year at Lewis and Clark Caverns (the OG early season spot, all the cool kids ride Copper City now...)

After Yellowstone, this is almost always the first few rides of the year destination and a good gauge of spring fatness/fitness.

Road climb to 4 different singletrack downhills, yes please.

I bike the road 1.5 times in a modified figure 8 to cover the two more fun downhills.

Road to caverns is closed to cars until next Wednesday, yes please.

This bridge is a little less than 1/2 way to the top, but accesses trails on the other side of the park than the stuff at the top of the climb.

A pinch point leads to the rocky chunk section:

Got to sample some hero dirt, before the rain hit. So good.

Then the rain hit, so we hit the rocky and rooty trail, of course. Extra sketch, as I forgot to switch the climb lever thing on the shock over. I thought I was riding like an idiot (maybe I was)...but I blame it on that

The red trillium flowers are out. Saw some yellow ones, or something that looked like them, but no pic. The white ones will explode shortly I expect. It makes for quite the scene when they carpet the brown forest here.

Also got my buddy to help block some major root/rock detours on one trail. We'll go back on Wednesday and see if a dickhead tries to clear it out.

Our red trilliums are about past, white are still considering blooming seriously.

Hopefully that's very secure at your work building? NFW would I leave that otherwise.
It’s a supermarket. Pretty secure, but leaving it for all of 5 minutes. Haven’t had issues thus far. My son sometimes forgets to lock his bike at school and the result is similar. Now if it was an escooter on the other hand :)

Nowhere Man!
What do you do with the Piranhas after you catch them? Are they tasty? Have you ever cut yourself on their teeth? I hear they are razor sharp. Is that a Black mamba? It seems to be chasing you. I am assuming you got away. Unless you were able to get a quick post here before you succumbed to the venom. In which case I am sorry about your untimely death. RIP my friend.
