I can't be racist. I am a minority...

I love saying that, because it so erroneous but most white people have never been discriminated so they have no response.

Racism has nothing to do with being a minority. Minority simply means you are fewer than the majority. For instance, where I work, I am a minority. And racism does go both ways. You hating on white people all the time just shows your disliking of someone based purely on their race. ... Racism.

Now go ride a bike path, tough guy.

U.S. sues black activist on voting act violation
Lawsuit marks first time 1965 law used to allege racial bias against whites

Updated: 7:48 p.m. ET May 2, 2006
MACON, Miss. - Ike Brown is a legend in Mississippi politics, a fast-talking operative both loved and hated for his ability to turn out black voters and get his candidates into office.

That success has also landed him at the heart of a federal lawsuit that’s about to turn the Voting Rights Act on its head.

For the first time, the Justice Department is using the 1965 law to allege racial discrimination against whites.

Notice that his Minuteman Project only concerns itself with the southern border.

Each week, thousands of illegal immigrants cross our southern border. Although some presumably have good intentions, at least twenty percent (20%) of southern border-crossers are known criminals, drug dealers, sex traffickers, and gang lords.

That's right... what a racist, after all there are just as many Canadians pouring over the border!

If your gonna fix a problem, you go after it where it is the worst.

I love how you keep trying to turn this into pure racism...

Here is an interesting snippet from an article I read about him;
Gilchrist paints a picture of the past, when those who migrated during the '40s and '50s retained their own values but worked to fit into the American culture. Immigrants learned English, he said, and sought to be embrace those traits that a typical American embodies, he said.

Today, there are too many subcultures grabbing for power, he says. When pressed for specifics about what makes the American culture, Gilchrist admits it's difficult to put into words.

He boils it down this way: When in Rome, do as the Romans, he says.
This is no different than christian bigots who say they don't mind homosexuals, it is just the act of homosexuality that they dislike.

He may not be a racist, but he is a bigot.

Bigot: : a person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices

So how does saying that peopel should retain their own values, but fit in and speak english make him a bigot?

Speak the language that Constitution and Declaration of Independence are written in (well at least an evolved version of it). Majority of Americans speak and understand English – so should a newly arrived immigrant.

Your snippet doesn’t mention only Spanish, he can be talking about Chinese, Swedish, French, Russian, French Canadians, etc.

I put Gilchrist's picture up because I thought a ranting old white dude is funny.

Since his project is to fence and guard the Mexican border, he might be a tad predjuice towards, uh, Mexicans. It just seemed too coincidental that he is a ranting old white dude.

I like making fun of white people because they are an easy target: it is the largest racial group and they don't get offended when you make fun of them being white. If someone wrote, I hate Chinese people (outside the context of this thread), there would be some response.

What I dislike about white people are the ones who go unchallenged in life, and then don't understand the struggles of the less privileged. I know plenty of white people who struggle and receive less than equal treatment, and I respect them.

The White People I am talking, you know who you are.

ARE YOU WHITE?!?!?

Uh, do you think the immigrant, legal or otherwise, who does not speak English has an easy time of it? Do you think Mexican immigrants who support a Spanish version of the National Anthem will get them a job or buy a house?

And do you think the head of the Minuteman Project, who lives in southern California, is referring to illegal Irish workers in New York City? I have a hard time understanding their brogues, I guess we should build a fence around Ireland.

Nope... but then why is it that whenever proposing English as the offical language of he USA everyone flips out? If I moved to any non-english speaking country they would expect me to learn the language... "when in Rome".

Ah crap I forgot to link the article. http://www.alipac.us/article284.html

But is is apparent that he is speaking about Mexicans. Going as as far as to point out his pride in his Mexican son-in-law, to validate his un-racist attitude. But every single article I have seen he only speaks of Mexicans and patrolling the southern border.

Almost every hispanic person I know speaks English, most of them won't let that fact be known to strangers though. Mostly because they get treated like crap by the majority of white people they encounter.

What the hell is wrong with you people? Of course he is talking about mexicans. Is that not BY FAR the largest illegal immigrant population? I dont have a problem saying it. Its just numbers. It isnt a race issue.

India has 23 official languages, Switerland 4. The official language of the Vatican, located in the heart of Rome, is Latin.

A national language is another way of legislating anti-Mexican sentiment, considering Spanish is the second most widely spoken language in America and Mexicans is focus of the immigration debate.

Think of it this way, do we need a national language? What does that do for us?

Saves me from having to "Press 1"

Asking immigrants to speak english isnt anti-mexican, its just the simplest way to make sure we can all communicate. Why should the majority have to cater? If people want to come here, making simple adaptations should be THEIR responsibility, not my tax dollars'. I dont want to pay for TWO restroom signs, TWO copies of EVERY official document, etc...where does it end? If you give legitimacy to Spanish, where does it stop?

They do learn english eventually, and providing multi lingual signs and documents only helps speed up that process.

You may not want your tax dollars going to that, but what about the tax dollars of said immigrants? I guess their dollars are worth less than real Americans.

Well, for example the voting instructions in SF are in English, Spanish and Chinese. Does that mean citizens who are more comfortable in another language are not allowed to vote?

Yes the irony...

Seems like yet another issue that nobody is going to do anything about, the Retardican base hates to see Latinos playing a spanish national anthem, but can't live without cheap produce. There's gotta be some biblical verse for it.... Reap what you sow stuff.

Fact remains that the majority are going to be incited by prejudice. Rallied to the cause for all the wrong reasons, nobody should deny. But even Chicanos should recognize that economically the well will eventually run dry if the floodgates remain open. If everyone from Mexico makes it here we will in fact live in Mexico and many of us will have to skip over to Canada for work.

i say hit somewhere that will do damage. Tax or force companies to pay for more health and welfare who hire illegals. When there's money involved government agencies actually do their work....

But i do laugh at it all. That it chaps all the flag waving nationalists hide that people are invading "their" land it is to laugh.

A Somali arrives in Minneapolis as a new immigrant to the United
States. He stops the first person he sees walking down the street and says,

Thank you Mr. American for letting me in this country, giving me
housing, food stamps, free medical care and free education!"

The passer-by says, "You are mistaken, I am Mexican".

The man goes on and encounters another passer-by. "Thank you for having
such a beautiful country here in America!"

The person says, "I no American, I Vietnamese."

The new arrival walks further, and the next person he sees he stops,
shakes his hand and says "Thank you for the wonderful America!"

That person puts up his hand and says, "I am from Middle East, I am not
an American!"

He finally sees a nice lady and asks "Are you an American?"

She says, "No, I am from Russia!"

Puzzled he asks her, "Where are all the Americans?"

The Russian lady checks her watch and says..."Probably at work!"

My pesonal experience is different. My in-laws are Cuban; only 1 grandfather in-law speaks English, and both sets of grandparents have been here for over 40 years.

As ‘grandpa’ has gotten older he slips up and speaks Spanish more and more. I will be taking Spanish courses in order to talk with him and the surviving grandmother in-law (not his wife).

The funny thing is that since my wife is Cuban, all the Mexicans around here take her for white. They will talk sh*t about others (usually in a racist manner) in front of her not realizing that she understands everything...

And India also has a huge issue with violence between the sects, huge poverty, major class divisions and is in the grips of a major issue of child labor – there’s a role model for us!

Switzerland – can’t comment on, all I know is they make good chocolate..

The Vatican is an organization, not a country. Yeah, they are huge and powerful, but tell me what % of Catholics knows Latin? I bet it’s below 10%... the ‘official language’ is a ceremonial thing at best.

And the problems with India is due to the 23 langauges? No discord in Switzerland from what I hear.

There are other countries with multiple national languages like Austria or The Phillipines, and many countries with unofficial national languages, like Canada or Brazil.

I am not saying we should print a copy of the Declaration in Spanish, Hindu, and Chinese, but we can relax a little about more Spanish speakers. It does not mean our way of life is ending.

And I'm not saying we need to ban all other languages - keep your culture/family ways... but be able to understand and communicate in the language that the laws of the country are written in.

where and when did people got the crazy idea newly arrived inmigrants (specially the illegal ones) get handed free housing, food stamps and free medical care, specially the unemployed???

when i moved to the US, i had to pay MORE than an in state american, and more than an out of state american for school. not complaining much, i understand i didnt pay taxes, so i have to pay somehow else.
then i had to buy, by law, health insurance, unlike an american who can go without one, and had to pay for everything, just like anybody else (and in some cases plus a foreign sucker fee)...

the whole idea of inmigrants (specially the illegal) into the states getting free houses, food stamps and basically leeching of the states is pretty riidiculous and i really want to know where does it came from?

lol. rednecks are so gullible and prone to not check facts.
i remember there was this good hearted, purebred alabama girl living downstairs who hanged around the union who asked me why i went to school in the US, and she thought i had because there were no colleges in peru.

i had so much fun for for that semester. she asked what my father did for a living.. "best spearman in town, good provider, can kill hundred monkeys for the village and trade them for dollar". for many weeks, i was succesfully pulling out a lot bs. she was in awe, and i guess out of respect, never made any remarks about my tales.
then one of my roomates find out i was bs her for weeks, and called me out... she got pretty pissed.
