The New and Improved Respect My cats $1600 eyeball thread

Knuckleslammer

took the red pill
Here he is in living color. For those not in tune for the introductory thread on my Siamese cat's eyeball saga, I bring you what is hopefully the sequel. Prince is a 2 year old male seal point applehead Siamese. His brother King seen at the bottom is the same, but only 7 months old. As for the names? My daughter named them, so step off already :mumble:
About 1.5 months ago a happy herperes ( rhinotracheitis ) virus decided to take up permanent residence in my cats focking left eyeball. NOT
I bring to you the before and after pictures of his cornea graph. A good portion of his cornea was gone when we finally brought him to the animal eyeball specialist. With a little bit of hope and $1600 the doc said he could do a cornea graph and replace his damaged cornea. I guess his eyeball was like 1 cell layer from bursting. However after the operation and the medicine

and these

he's lookin like a champ

Here is is 6 hours after the operation

1.5 months later. His left eyelid is still not open all the way at times from being stitched closed so long, but it's getting there

Here's his bro, King

and their brother PUDGE who is 10 years old. He's a sharpie/pitbull mix. He's as friendly as a lark when your in the house, but he's all business when your on the other side of the front door ringin da bell. He's got issues with his toenails (they grow like 3" a month) and have to be cut by the vet. Whatever you do "DON'T TOUCH HIS FEET" :D caus he'll bite your arm off. He's gotta be knocked out with 2 doggie valiums 1 hour before going to the vet just to get him in the door, which is still a Marine effort. He's a stealth 97lbs and there ain't an ounce of fat on him.

Good to hear the cats recovering nicely. I dont own any animals for that very reason, I could afford to feed them, but I couldnt do a fatty vet bill like that.

good to see that cat doing good.you cat is lucky to have such a nice owner. i mean i like cats and all ( i had three, now two. Uncas and simon) but last year my cat cosco got in a fight and his eye got messed up pretty bad. they said it would be 890 bucks to save him, not his eye, him. sorry but i cant justify spending 890 bucks on something that could be eaten by a mountain lion the next day.its was a pet, not a brother or sister. Cosco is now in kitty heaven.

well a person could also get eaten by a mountain lion the next day. remember dem people that got killed out in like california or somewhere around there. yup but anyways a cat i definately wouldnt spend that kinda money on. a dog maybe. but call me selfish id rather have it to spend on a bike or bills or whatever expenses you have to feed your self or something.

Yeah, I know, I've heard it from many, "your nuts spending that on a cat"

But like I said, if you knew the cat and saw first hand how loyal he is and whatnot, you'd understand. This cat rules, and the breed is so smart it's unreal. This is no lie either, he waits by the door every day and about 1 minute later, my wife is home. She's a nurse too, and doesn't get home everyday at the same time. Sometimes 5, sometimes 6. However he's done this more than a year. Most people think I'm nuts and say it's just coincidence and based on time. I'd say that is true if she got home the same time every day, however she doesn't. Sometimes 5:30, sometimes 5:45, etc... and he's always there by the door and 1 minute later she's home. He also stares at the ceiling a lot which makes me  that maybee We're not alone in the house

I paid $1000 for my cat when he couldn't pee!!! The other option was :dead: ... and we couldn't do that to him!

That is how my cat is... waiting there when you get home, and he talks to us all the time. We've even figured out what he is saying (1/2 the time).

Sheit, my cat Prince is more intellegent than 1/2 the people I know, perhaps including myself. He's a yeller too. Always screaming about something. Kills me. We have lengthy in depth conversations about theology, quantum physics, the theory of relativity. the time/space continuuum. He's an important figure in human evolution (which the main part is controlled by extraterrestrial beings) he is constantly staring up at the ceiling transmitting valuable data back to the mother ship. That is mainly why it was imperative for me to make sure he is in full working order. The Gods would not be happy with me otherwise :D

haha the image of you having deep convos with your cat made me laugh.

Knuckle: Hey, what do you think about Stephen Hawking recently changing his viewpoints on blackholes?

Cat: Meow

Knuckle: Damn, I've never thought about it that way before. How do you think this will affect the scientific community?

Cat: Meow

Knuckle: Really? Wow. But don't you think that the blackhol-

Cat: Meow

Knuckle: Woah you took the words right outta my mouth.

smart cat or not, ugly or cute, you did the right thing. I know it's hard to shell the cash but when it comes to decisions like that, that is no option. Good Job, and my dogs and cats say meow bow wow.

Glad that he's doing okay. I shelled out a grand or so during the last year of my other cat's life when his kidneys were failing, then started spending.. Probably $50-60/month on food and insulin alone because he decided to turn diabetic. Eventually, it was just his time to go and I had him put to sleep, but there isn't a dime I've earned that I wouldn't have spent if I thought it would have saved him and given him a reasonable quality of life.

Yes, it's crazy, but it's just.. something I do. They're part of the family, not just "a pet" that you can replace on a whim. I picked out that cat when I was 3 years old and he lived to be 19 - how much is a companion for the first 20 years of your life worth to you? How much is a companion for any years of your life worth? It's just money. More can always be earned.

Give Prince a scratch on the head for me. Hope he makes a full recovery.

Wow, beautiful cat's man. My mom is a cat lover. I had a persian cat that has just ran away a couple of weeks ago, I really miss him :(

Couple of day's ago, my mom brought a new cat home... kitten, i'd say. Another persian (flat faced). It's a girl, exremely playful and sleepy and hell, one time she fell asleep on my lap while I was on the computer, and when it was time for me to go to bed, i picked up her, put her on my bed... she didn't even move a muscle, and she sleeped with me for the rest of the night untill like 9am, crazy kitten she is. I can take some pictures of her if you want...

But your cats man... they are beautiful, my mom wan't to get another kitten, so maybe i'll suggest her one of your kind. Hope Prince get's better..

I like this picture:

funny, just put a patch over his eye and he'll look like a pirate

Damn! It's SO good to see that he's doing well. You're a good owner :thumb: I have a Ragdoll Siamese and he's smart as hell (which is also as scary as hell) and I would do anything necessary to keep him in good health. :D

I give you TOTAL props, i would do it for my cat if it came down to it. There's a love a cat gives that most people will never understand.

Prince looks like he needs to be pet. :)

So Knuck, will he have all his vision back once he recovers, or will there be vision damage?

Doc says 100%, but what am I gonna do, pull his other eye out for 5 minutes to make sure? :D

It was a cornea graph that was done. I don't know the statistics, but he's lookin like a champ. I'm stoked.

Him and I did the Worcester 500 last night (cruise around Worcester) in the jeep. He loves old school Megadeth :dancing:

cute kitty :D i'd do the same for my kittens if they needed it. they're 9 years old and still very healthy.

it's only money. they've saved my sanity more times than i can count. that's worth far more then a paycheck. to me anyway :)
