I'm totally daydreaming at work today......so bear with me....

The Pedro's Fest thread got bumped recently and it got me thinking about next year. I think I'd like to go. But I'm REALLY not a camper. With the holidays coming up, I was thinking it would be a good time to make a list of what we'd need to camp for 3 days and 2 nights for Pedro's 2007. (I'm thinking gifts from people and after holiday sales!)

We have a tent and an air mattress - that's about it.

So list some things you have that you consider MUST HAVES and NICE TO HAVES. Splat - if there's anything you DON'T have but feel our camp site would benefit from, now's the time to add it to my list

Lightweight chairs. They can be fancy backpacking chairs, or lawn chairs, or whatever. A dedicated place to sit that you can write your name on is essential.

Lights. Hide a few cheap small flashlights in various places.

Bic lighters. Hide these in the same places. Add a few 5mm allen wrenches while you're at it.

Layers. A good fleece sweater and a shell is minimal.

Pancake mix, fresh fruit and syrup.

Extra shade. It can be as simple as a couple sticks and a tarp to make a lean-to off of the tent, or a fancier tensile structure type thing. It really helps if you don't want to be in the tent but don't want to sit in the sun.

Citronella candle.

Don't make any food that you can't eat with one sturdy spoon.

Baby wipes and/or wet naps.

Cheese.

Extra zip lock bags.

Just to make sure we're all on the same page MBC, since you're refering to Pedro's in particular, can we assume you mean items for "car camping"?

The best camping implements I own are my Ontario Cutlery machete and my REI candle lantern. I have owned these items for many years, they have never failed me and I'd feel naked camping without them. I use a cast iron dutch oven for most of my cooking.

It probably goes without saying, but an excess of canned beer and bourbon whiskey are crucial provisions...as are a travel B and container of chronic, IMHO. Lord knows I opened up another ozone hole above Douthat a couple weeks back!

Cane machetes are nice. Cost about $10. Lightweight but heavy enough to chop wood if you need to. You can also give something (someone?) a severe wound if there is an issue.

You planning on cleaning up all outdoors, or you just think you're going to track a lot of leaves into the tent?

(just kidding .... that's a great list. I might print a couple copies out and throw them in my gear box for my next trip)

The ability to make coffee is critical. Coffee, water, stove, fuel, flame, coffee making device, and a cup are the first things I pack.

Beyond that, for big festivals the only essentials are a tent (or car big enough to sleep in), mattress, bag, warm clothes, a light, a camp chair, and booze.

As for "nice to have," whenever I car camp with a group, I seem to be the only one to bring a wine opener, a can opener, salt, food lube (cooking oil or butter), a cutting board, a decent knife, tongs and a spatula. These things make life a lot nicer.

I'm soo disapointed that french presses and pancake mix got mentioned before

BEER
No doubt. I started scanning the threa and quickly realized that no one mentioned beer. WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?

If you are camping at an event around a lot of people you will hear every little sound those people make. Ear plugs are a must for me although lately I have found sleeping with an mp3 player running is a good alternative.
