The search for the ultimate all around tire

I suppose if I were just a downhiller or XC rider the search would still be there but when you have one bike you ride 99% of the time and you use it for back country trail rides, Hucking, downhills at the ski area and getting groceries or a video in town the needs of a tire are really extreme.

I wish the Velociraptor was made in the 2.3" size it is one of my favorites for the back tire. I have no favorite for the front but the Motoraptor has been there the longest so it must be doing OK.

I have not used Nokain gazzoladi but I think they are really heavy I guess I'll have to check. The perfect tire for me?

Under 1000 grams, really knobby and agressive for use in snow and climbing loose material. Easy rolling on hardpack for long XC rides. Tough enough not to get ripped to shreds on the ski area downhills. Nothing smaller then 2.3" I would like bigger but 2.3 will work. The new 2.5 wierwolf is 2.5 but claimed to be much smaller then that by users?

Does the perfect tire exist? Hard to try them all so I'm hoping those with experience with tires having these traits will speak up! I'll need new tires by Sept. or sooner I figured I would start looking now

i rock gazzy's duals on my all around bike, and they're pretty sweet, though i actually wish i had a regular for the rear. go 2.6 front and rear, as long as you're not XC riding with anyone too fast.

I have Gazzi Dual 2.6"s and I've actually not been too happy with how they grip. They feel squirmy.

Spoke to a guy in town today and he said the Continental Vertical pro in 2.3 is the ultimate all around tire and they last a long time. Never heard of anyone using them until today. I don't even think I have seen continental tires at the LBS before? I wonder how the sizes run for what they claim? Hopefully not like the WTB tire sizes do!

Check out the wire bead Hutchinson Octopus 2.3 DH Team Competition tires... light, under 1K g....thread pattern mimics that of the venerable Michillen Comp 16..
The octopus are awesome and I have raced on them on several ocassions with great results....as long as there aren't any deep powder on the trail, the tire just works...

Servus!

(Here I go again) Gotta give props to my German tire maker, Continental.

I run the Vertical 2.3 on the rear and it stands up to my extra-large ass. Most cushy, knobblies bite at all the right times, they wear well, etc.Best of all, they're realtively cheap because they haven't hit off big with the American DH crowd. Not that they're a sh!tty tire, just they aren't well known.

Get 'em - you won't be disappointed.

Hmm, I have had a Vertical Pro for about a year, and it is a fine xc tire. It looks mighty funny on wider rims, however, and is not ideal for urban or dh riding, as it has no sidewall protection.

I'm considering IRC Kujo's(2.35) and Panaracer Fire DH(2.3) for the same purpose since they're both relatively cheap at $30 - $35. Does anyone have any experience with these tires? How do they perform in mud?
