I'm still mad I didnt take the blatantly obvious breakout signal on GMCR's stock last week. It was blatant a day before this news came out.

You're kidding right?

If not, then you should read up some.
Peet's is corperate a all hell. Their original guy is long gone, and his apprentice, weaver, started weavers coffee. They are partnered with Godiva and are serving starbucks like sugar flavored coffee. As well the quality of the beans has been suffering. This isn't me talking out my ass either, this is what the assistant manager at my local starbucks told me, and what 2 of my other friends who work there have said. From what I've heard from both bux and peets employees is peets is starbucks without the super aggressive stance on market share. If you ever in oakland though give weavers a try, its mad good. Naw scratch that get blue bottle, it's in oakland of SF, best coffee i've ever had

I actually agree with mushu. Blue Bottle is quite possibly the best coffee ever.

You would.
Dude, I bart out there from concord every week to get coffee beans.

Never had blue bottle but I've two friends who work in the peet's roaster facility down by oakland who keep me hooked up. If I could avoid mail and just get a pipeline built I'd be waging war over this.
That's your problem, go have some and you will understand what I'm talking about. Peets is a few steps above bux, and going down hill. All they seem to every brew in house is lousy ass Sumatran.

I've been drinking the stuff for 8 years. It's not a problem, it's a privilege. Just because peet's is bigger than they used to be doesn't mean their coffee has suffered. I'm starkly reminded of that any time I have to buy a bag of most other coffees. Just because you know of another good brand, doesn't mean peet's is the equivalent of starbucks. If you're too dumb to see the difference in business models between the two companies, you deserve your folgers in a starbucks cup.

They lost their master brewer weaver like 6-8 years ago, and they last his apprentice 2 or 3 years ago. The coffee has suffered due to that, not size. The business models are different yes, starbucks is far more aggressive in their market share. The way they treat their baristas is very much starbucks like, and getting worse.

From what I understand though the options up where you live aren't so good, so I understand how you think peets is amazing compared to the crap you guys get.

Whether I think peet's is 'amazing' or not, the stuff is light years better than anything starbucks has ever made in any capacity. They're focus is retail shops over quality coffee. That's all I'm really pissed about. Peet's is finally available almost everywhere on the west coast. When I'm on a road trip, I know I can buy a bag and it won't suck.

I know recognition of subtlety isn't exactly your thing but it's not like I've got a peet's temple at my house or anything, I just don't want shlt that starbucks makes replacing what's still a decent brand.

Blue bottle is on my block. I use it as a great way to identify monumental douchebags who are so privileged and disconnected from reality that they actually think that the debate between chemex and a siphon pot is worth not just their time but their passion. Those dickwads wrap themselves around the block every weekend morning, blocking my view of the corsetry shop.

Sure the coffee is good, but it's not better than any of Trader Joes beans from a french press, or it's sure as **** not as good as Philz, AND at the end of the day, Jesus ****, it's just coffee. Now excuse me while I sample some single malts.

The one on the Embarcadero (in Plant) was just below my office. I would just call it in, no lines for me. Then I got the twitches, and now I can't drink coffee.:( Makes it a lot easier to wake up though.

Oh, and for a struggling student Mooshu, that you are able to afford the BART ride over to buy premium coffee in Oakland is pretty impressive. I would only buy it 1-2x a week because it's too expensive, and I have an income.

yea, 6$ out to rockridge and back, few hours of riding, and a 9$ half pound of coffee for the week. I spend about as much on beans as your 2 4$ cups a week..... Now before you go questioning my financial decisions I would like you to consider a few things
1) You don't know the whole situation and you're talking out of your ass
2) Don't you have something better to do then track down all my posts and talk smack, like your real job you seem so proud of
3) this goes off number 2, you're a little pathetic starting for taking the time too **** with some kid you think you're so superior too

So you're privileged, think your tastebuds are better, and have a disdain for other people's stated opinions?

Yep...you sound like just the person to judge. Good on you.

Edit: Also....6+9=15 .....2x4=8.... uh, about nothing.....good thing you're not a math major...jesus...

I'm with Dante here. I have 4# of beans at home as the prices were rising very quickly. Unfortunately I can no longer drink coffee, so I'm thinking that I will need to freeze them. Anyone know what freezing beans does to them?

Pffft. As long as Sweet Maria's is in business, I don't care.

From where I'm standing, arguing about Peets vs. Starbucks is like arguing Blue Moon vs Budweiser.

How long would it take you (or your lady friend) to drink that much? Coffee beans (whole bean) last quite a while, as it's only after you grind them up that they start to go stale...

At this point a long time. The coffee was primarily for me as I was drinking a few cups/day in the mornings. I might just give it to my pops when he is up here in two weeks.

I stand corrected. It looks like prices went up exponentially. Was $2.25/cup just a few months back. I guess this has been saving me a ton of money.

You realize that if you're going to give Mooshoo crap for his poor English skills, we should give you crap for your poor math skills/definitions as well, right?

:D

edit: Unless of course you meant "exponential" as in $2.25 ^ 1.25.

I guess that could be technically correct...

No he's right, it went up to exponentially a power of right about 1.25. No wonder our economy is in the hole, Mr. stock market can't do basic math. Oh, and if we're giving him crap and bringing up other threads, lets not forget the bike race incident and the oh so recent lez-TI incident.

Joker, understand you can never win an argument with me, if you win I'm still the retard, but if I win you're the bigger retard.
