I agree nukular is the way to go. The new technology has come a very long way since the last plant was built in the US. We just need to come up with a real plan on waste storage.
Can't you just pay poor countries to take it?

Because it might have to be transported through rich suburban neighborhoods to get to a poor country. I say we just dump it along the Mexican border. Illegal immigrants will be easy to identify as they will all have radiation sickness.

Let's just shoot it into space. That will never backfire on us, right?

Put it in Alabama. If it leaks, we'll never know.

There are plenty of good ways. Just ask France. (I'm being serious.)

It's the frogs that will probably end up building the damn plants.

A cooperation between some US and French companies have already started the permit application process for some new power plants in the state.

The French stuck with nuclear power since it's inception, and are probably the best at it these days. I think they get more of their energy from np than anyone.

But, what if they develop super powers from it and become super immigrants?

Careful, you might create inbred fundamentalists with X-men-like powers. Imagine if Pat Robertson could shoot laserbeams out his eyeballs.

edit: damn you, Old Man, for being as quick on the draw as I.

Trust me, we are going nuclear...

I think people whine too much about it. We have the highest safety controls in the world, but if we improve on that (like to nuclear submarine safety), I think we can rely on it more...

:stupid:
The same is an issue for these cleaner emission coal plants. I interviewed with a company 10 years ago that was reducing emisions by like 50%. How do they do this: they use filters... but what do you now do with these filters? They store them in 55 gallon drums since they are toxic waste...

Not exactly a "solution" to the problem... just a change of venue for the bi-products of burning coal.

But at least such waste is very effectivly contained, and with a little foresight can remain so until we have a really good way of getting rid of it.

I like the subduction zone method and, in futurre, when we have a space elevator, the 'blast it into the sun' method.

Nanotechnolergy. I think I heard him say some thing about nanotechnolergy. That should do it.

I'm just gonna go ahead and say it: the two party system is ruining America. Its time for people to start voting for themselves, not their "party"

I agree although I dont see it goin any other way. people are so programed to think one way or the other I dont see any middle ground. I think Mccains got the best shot of anyone. As close to middle of the road as anyone out there. Both sides hate him he's perfect

McCain could win a popular election but the hard core Republicans would never let him win the Republican nominations. I'll put money on that.

Yup... and that is why Bush is president. The GOP wanted him in, so they made sure to get him there. McCain bent over and took it for the team instead of fighting for the people.

I lost a LOT of respect for him when he decided that he'd rather be a Republican than a candidate...

So here's the question of the day: what would it take to kick-start a 3rd (centrist) party? Which people, how much money, which would be the first elections to target?

Does it take a big gun businessman heavily bankrolling marquee candidates in a big election (e.g. McCain for Pres as an independent) to provide momentum and draw a sustainable stream of donations, or can it be done at a grassroots level?

Guess what: I would've voted for McCain too (and it wouldn't have been the first time I voted Republican).

I cant remeber the actual rule, but I'm pretty sure it would take tha bolishment of the electoral college system to create another party as strong as the republicrats or the democrans. To win a presidential ellection the candidate must have a certain number of votes and if the total votes were split (relatively) evenly among the three parties, no candidate would have enough votes. Like I said I cant remember the actual numbers, does anyone know more?
